**Warning**
This book is intended for a mature reading audience and contains adult language and themes. Contains a stubborn alpha male with addiction issues and loads of sexual tension between two damaged characters. Read at your own risk.
Knox Bauer's life has unraveled to the point of no return. Fighting to fill the emptiness inside himself, he seeks solace in unfamiliar beds with unfamiliar women. As guardian to his three younger brothers, he can't seem to do a thing right. But this can't go on...they look up to him in every way and all he’s done lately is prove how messed up he really is. Needing a change, he attends a local Sex Addicts Anonymous meeting, where he finds himself tempted by the alluring instructor, McKenna.
Twenty-one year old McKenna is trying to make amends. After losing her parents in a horrific accident, she knows if she can just be good enough, maybe she can forgive herself for what happened. With her newly acquired degree in counseling, she begins leading a sex addicts group where she meets the troubled Knox and her life takes on complications she never bargained for. She doesn't have time for a bad boy who only wants to take her to bed, even if her body disagrees. The fixer in her wants to help, but trusting Knox's true motivations might take more courage than she has.
When I Break is book 1 in a new series by New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Kendall Ryan. When I Surrender, book 2, will be available April 7, 2014. Please note this is not a standalone, as the story continues in book 2
BOOK & AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4 STARS
Addictions, addictions!! I’ve read a couple of books with this subject, and despite the plots are all different, they are similar in some ways. Lead Me Not by Meredith Walters and No Regrets Series by Lauren Blakely. Both books are about addictions, Lead Me Not was about Drug Addiction and No Regrets Series was about Sex and Love Addiction. All these books, the three of them, are very intense and it was impossible not to fall in love with the characters.
I really enjoyed this book/audiobook. I couldn’t stop reading/listening to it, it was so addictive *smirk*. I wanted to know how they would handle their attraction and the fact she was his counselor in the SAA group he has to attend. However, there was more than that. They both, Knox and McKenna, had difficult pasts that caused them serious issues, and for some crazy reason, maybe the connection that was so strong between them, or maybe the sexual tension, I don’t really understand why, they opened up to each other, sort of, sharing part of their pasts, motivations, fears and feelings.
What I loved about this book:
– Knox’s relationship with his brothers. I thought ît was going to be a dysfunctional family, but he has managed to raise great boys. Knox works hard to make his brothers happy and to keep them safe, but sadly he lost himself in alcohol and sex.
– McKenna and Knox sincerity. They were honest about their feelings and about their expectations.
– Knox doing the right thing about them having sex.
– McKenna being so upfront about her feelings toward Knox.
– Knox’s brothers. They are the best!
What I didn’t like about this book and audiobook:
– They started a relationship knowing it was a forbidden relationship and they didn’t even talk about the risks it would mean to her career as a counselor.
– Josh Goodman’s performance. I liked his voice. It’s male and strong and sexy. But he doesn’t express much emotion in it.
I really think McKenna and Knox could make their lives better. Their connection is so strong and I’m sure that will definitely help them. But….. Things among addictions aren’t easy… I cant wait to read/listen to the next book.
