Once upon a time in New York City, there was a down-on-his-luck actor named Reeve, who was talented and gorgeous in that dreamy, broody sort of way that makes all the women swoon. But show biz is a rough biz – he lost out on a part in a big film, and now his day job hours have been cut too. What’s a handsome young thing in need of a role to do? Enter Sutton Brenner. She’s sexy and shrewd and the most top-notch casting director there is. She’s this close to landing a coveted gig casting a film based on a best-selling mega-romance novel, but there’s a catch. After one too many transgressions with lovely single ladies, the film’s philandering producer has been put on a short leash by his wife, who’s forbidden him from working with anyone unattached. So the happily single Sutton strikes a pact with Reeve – play the role of her fiancee until she closes the deal, and he’s guaranteed to get an audition for the starring role in the film. But as the two play pretend, the lines between make-believe and matters of the heart start to blur. Especially after that hot night in the balcony of the Broadway theater. And that scorching afternoon in the stacks of the New York Public Library. Who’s playing who? Or is someone else really the director in the secret affair of their lives?

PRETENDING HE’S MINE is a companion book in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling CAUGHT UP IN US series. It can be read before or after CAUGHT UP IN US. You do not need to have read CAUGHT UP IN US to enjoy this story, though characters from CAUGHT UP IN US appear in PRETENDING HE'S MINE.

BOOK & AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 4 STARS

I loved this book the first time I read it and now, with the audiobook, I had the chance to fall in love with Reeve and Sutton once again.

This was the second book I read by Lauren Blakely back in 2013. I loved the plot, the characters, the love story, the sexy scenes, the ending and of course, and knowing a little more about the HEA of Kat and Bryan.

Reeve is an actor who’s only starting his career and he has the opportunity of his life. It wasn’t what he expected at first, but he agreed to Sutton’s deal to pretend to be her fiance in order to get an audition in her soon to be new project. But… Being a pretend-fiance is a hard job for someone who has had a crush with the other one for a while, right? But this fact made this pretending even better, hotter and very very interesting.

Sutton is a director who likes to control everything. She’s a control freak, now I understand why she’s best friend with Michelle (From The Seductive Nights Series, read my reviews here Book 3,5 and Book 4), they are the same. But she had a “weak” side, and Reeve knew how to reach it. It was awesome how she fought to keep the control but their chemistry and then her feelings toward Reeve won that power battle.

The narration of Emily Durante was good. At first it was a little difficult to connect with her performance, because her voice for Reeve wasn’t that fitting, but as the story progresses, I got used to her voice and I ended up loving her voice. I like the pace of her narration and her pronunciation is flawless. Her british accent for Sutton was awesome.
