Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs Series.
As a DC defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing – with his southern drawl, disarming smile and captivating green eyes – he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him.
Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan.
Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart and mother of his beloved ten-year old daughter. Jenny is getting married — to someone who isn’t him.
That's definitely not part of the plan.
Sofia Santos is a city raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions.
But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits" begs for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him – to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi – to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves.
Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely.
What happens when you mix a one stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage and a gun-toting Nana?
The Bourbon flows, passions rise and even the best laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 5+++
One thing I love about audiobooks, especially Simon and Schuster’s audiobooks, is that they always make the books better. Obviously that was what happened with Overruled audiobook. Jason Carpenter and Charlotte Penfield made a terrific narration. They translated the characters so well that made me love them even more.
The first time I read Overruled I ended up head over heels crazy in love with Stanton *smirk* and I loved Sofia but not the way I love her now -Book Girlfriend Alert-. I think Charlotte made her character stronger, smarter and sexier. I loved listening to Sofia’s chapters: her thoughts about how much she wanted Stanton, how she liked the simplicity of their relationship, the “Friends with benefits” was perfect until it wasn’t what she wanted anymore. It was great to listen to her thoughts about Stanton being a father, I think that was my favorite thought of her, because that was the first glimpse of what she really wanted of him.
And Jason, Oh My God, Jason, made everything about Stanton more perfect. There were three kind of narrations: Young Stanton, Adult Lawyer Stanton and Adult Souther Stanton. I could notice the change of attitude in Stanton voice after the third chapter – 10 years later -. The Adult Lawyer Stanton was more confident, more charming, more dirty talker…. More…. PERFECT. And when Jason was talking in that sexy southern accent, Oh My God, I could combust, it was utterly sexy.
To complete the perfect narration of Jason and Charlotte, the sex scenes were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Reading them in my head was hot *wink*, but seriously, listening to those sex scenes narrated by them was just scorching hot.
Everyone has to read and listen to Overruled! It’s a must! 500% Recommended.
I saw two Stantons in my head when I was listening to the audiobook:
The Stanton with the sexy southern accent
The Stanton who talked, kissed, touched, and made love to Sofia
Also, check John King modeling. He is so Stanton! *drooling*
