It’s time for twenty-four-year-old Amber MacLean to face the music. After a frivolous six months of backpacking through New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia, she finds herself broke on the Mediterranean without enough money for a plane ticket home to California. There are worse places to be stuck than the gorgeous coastline of southern Italy, but the only job she manages to secure involves teaching English to two of the brattiest children she’s ever met.

It doesn’t help that the children are under the care of their brooding older brother, Italian ex-motorcycle racer Desiderio Larosa. Darkly handsome and oh-so-mysterious, Derio tests Amber’s patience and will at every turn—not to mention her hormones.

But when her position as teacher turns into one as full-time nanny at the crumbling old villa, Amber finds herself growing closer to the enigmatic recluse and soon has to choose between the safety of her life back in the States and the uncertainty of Derio’s closely guarded heart.

I’m pretty ashamed to admit that this is my first book of Karina Halle, I found out that all her books have amazing scenarios, that she always takes you to memorable places, and this books was not the exception. She even asked her readers where her next book should be set and the result was the amazing Amalfi Coast – Italy.

I’ve never felt the need to google for images from a place described on a book but Karina made me do it. The way she describes the whole scenario was amazing and I wanted immediately to pack a bag and fly to the other side of the world.

Amber MacLean spent six months backpacking through different places, she wants to figure out what to do with her life. She ended on Capri Island totally broke, she needs to get a job so she can save money to buy her ticket to go back home or to extend her adventure a little longer.  As she was looking desperately for a job, she found an ad to help as an English teacher to seven year old twins, she has a degree in English but she is not that fond into kids. As she needs the job, she took the challenge.

Amber works for a gorgeous Italian stallion named Desiderio Larosa or Derio as she called him. He became legal guardian from his twin siblings after his parents death. Both kids and Derio have issues, they have a tragic past and Amber will have to deal with them and also with their feelings, she wants Derio opens to her, to overcome his issues, to fall for her.

“Isn’t that what every woman wants? To heal the bad boy?

Derio can be a really asshole sometimes with Amber, he’s is all mysterious and a loner, he ignores her but what both can’t ignore is the chemistry that has built between them.

“Did you feel anything?” I ask softly, hopefully.

He shakes his head ever so slightly, his forehead damp against mine. “No,” he murmurs. “I felt everything.”

I’m now a big fan of Halle books, I’ll read any book of her, that’s for sure. This book was beautifully written, as  I said her way of “take you” to the exact place where the story develops is wonderful. Lovely plot, well developed, the characters are amazing, great dialogues.

I highly recommend this book, go grab your passport and bag and be ready to be taken to this amazing place…….

“Where you go, I go. To the land, to the sea. Always and forever.”
