BOOK REVIEW: 5+++ STARS

It’s not a secret I love bastards, if they are meaner, the better, and I was so eager to meet Eli Cooper, because from what I read of him in the previous books, he was going to be a huge pain in the ass, and guess what? HE WAS A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS! I spent a whole day worried sick about him, because he was a big asshole and was going to suffer the consequences of being the worst prick ever, and I was going to suffer so much along with him. But Je ne regrette rien, Eli Cooper was my pain in the ass, my biggest bastard, my asshole! Ok, he wasn’t mine, he was Alex’, but I am going to pretend I am the badass firefighter who stole his heart from the very first moment he lay eyes on her. *BIGGEST SIGH EVER*

This is the story of Alexandra Dempsey, the female sibling in the Dempsey family, and Eli Cooper, the most powerful man in Chicago, The Mayor. Their story was like The Clash of Titans, you couldn’t know who was most stubborn, or who was in charge, or who was going to say the last word, but they had that attraction, so raw and intense, that was bigger than their own egos and they ended up being slaves of their hormones, and in that moment, when their walls were down, when only their bodies were in charge, was when they were equals, and everything was perfect.

He was taming her, but also fanning the flames of revolution. He was dominating her, but exhorting her to meet him beat for booming beat. She had never felt more . . . equal to another man.

But in truth, nothing is ever perfect, and here is when I became a mess if nerves, because Eli fucking lied to Alex, and I knew that the minute she knew about those lies, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! And Eli would suffer and I would suffer with him, because, despite Eli being the biggest bastard in the entire fictional universe, I loved him, with all my heart.

So, you must be wondering if, and I quote, “could the slick politician and the sharp-tongued firefighter make this work?”. You’ll have to read this amazing book to find out.

I utterly loved this book. From beginning to end. Alex was amazing, she was strong and wanted to be seen as a strong firefighter at the Engine 6, but she also wanted to be seen as a woman when she wasn’t working, she wanted to have the OTL –One True Love- but she was having a hard time finding that point in her life. She was also as loyal as her brothers, to her family, to her friends and most of all, to herself. I loved how she handle things with Eli and her brother’s being against their relationship. I loved the friendship she had with Darcy and Kensey –GO GIRLS-.

But what really stole my heart in this book was Eli Cooper. OH MY GOD! He was so arrogant, and self centered, with an ego as big as his *cough* head, in three letters, he was a B.F.T. – Big. Fucking. Tool.- And to top of everything he was The Sex Ninja! *fans self* So HOT! He was just so perfect I couldn’t help myself but to fall in love with him. I loved his friendship with Brady, I loved his dog, the cutest pet ever, and that stressful moment they had with the dog was as stressful to me, I only wanted to hold him and tell him everything was going to be ok. I loved his determination in his job. He was a man on a mission and he’d do anything to fulfill his goals, But most of all, I loved his heart *SIGH SIGH SIGH*.

And of course, all this was because Kate Meader, who wrote an amazing love story, full of passion, love, loyalty, strength and forgiveness. This book was beautifully written, with an original plot, very well connected with the previous books, Rekindle the Flame, Flirting with Fire and Melting Point, and with their characters. I can’t wait for Sparking the Fire, Wyat’s story. Eli knows his secrets, now I need to know them too. Is it 2016 already?
