Fifth Book in the New York Times Bestselling Series

“We’d won. We’d cut through the lies and treachery and promised an alliance that would free us both. But even as we won, we lost. We didn’t see what was coming. We didn’t know we had to plan a resurrection.”

Nila Weaver fell in love. She gifted her entire soul to a man she believed was worthy. And in the process, she destroyed herself. Three debts paid, the fourth only days away. The Debt Inheritance has almost claimed another victim.

Jethro Hawk fell in love. He let down his walls to a woman he believed was his cure. For a moment, he was free. But then he paid the ultimate price.

There is no more love. Only war. Hope is dead. Now, there is only death all around them.

review

I know. I’m really late to the Pepper Winters party but damn am I glad I CAME. I’ve now devoured all that is currently available from two of her series (Indebted and Monsters In the Dark) and like all insatiably greedy needy bitches I. Want. More. Like NOW! I happened upon the Indebted series by accident but was immediately hooked. I read all 4 books in a day and a half.#greedybitch

And during that day and a half of reading not much else got done. No. Seriously, I threw one of my deadlines to the curb and my client was less than thrilled to get what was commissioned a day late. Whoops. *In my proposal I forgot to mention that if I become obsessed with a book, and said book is part of a series, then everything else in my life goes out the fucking window.*

The first book in the series is titled Indebted#1 Debt Inheritance.

And how it starts—let’s just say that I was a little confused at first. Until around chapter 9 or 10,  I thought Jethro (AKA, Jet…one of the main characters) was a fucking vampire. There’s a lot of talk about COLD demeanor and COLD hands and Jet calling himself a fucking monster/animal  all the time had me convinced he was an incubus.

Example:

“…The devils in society hid with better camouflage…As the years rolled by, and we left our barbaric ways behind, people forgot about the shadows lurking in plain sight. We might live in a civilized world, but rules and laws didn’t apply to me. I was a rule-breaker, curse-maker, life-stealer.”

– Pepper Winters, Indebted (pg.13) e-book

*Not in the mood for a vampire story, I was like ‘what the fuck am I reading?!?’ Imagine my surprise to find out, chapters later, that Jet’s not a creature of the night. He’s just part of an English biker gang that’s involved with the questionably legal dealing of diamonds. WTF right? Don’t know how I didn’t see that one coming!*

As the plot progressed, I soon felt like the story I was reading was a little familiar. It really reminded me of a series I’d read before: Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty Erotica Series.  Yeah-yeah I know that this is my second Anne Rice reference since I started blogging (on my second blog post) but the similarities stood out to me. *Which is ok by me because I fucking loved the Sleeping Beauty Series (SBS)!* And Rice has recently revived the series by adding a new bookBeauty’s Kingdom. I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s on my list.*

SPOILER ALERT!!*******IF YOU HAVEN’T READ INDEBTED #1 (DEBT INHERITANCE) or THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY THEN STOP READING THIS NOW!!!

Let me break it down for you:

1st Similarity)  In The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty is awoken, by her prince,  with a kiss — and a cock— *he seriously claims that shit* and taken from her family to become his indentured sex slave. The kinky kingdom from whence he came steals princesses and princes alike AND IT’S ALL JUST ACCEPTED as a ‘that’s the way things are’ kind of thing. Indebted #1 is very much the same. Jethro (Jet) sets out for Milan to claim what’s his—Ms. Weaver (Nila). He’s bound by duty and tradition, just like the peeps of the kinky kingdom in the SBS. Both sides of both worlds, in both books, accept the ‘claiming’ rite as normal.

2nd Similarity) There is punishment. Beautiful glorious punishment. And not just punishment for bad behaviour or past crimes. There is punishment just for the sake of pleasure.

3rd Similarity) Both fucked-up kingdoms (Hawk and Kinky) have this untouchable element. In their worlds, power rules over everything. Now I know that’s frequently an underlying theme in BDSM and/or Romance novels but these deliciously sick fucks are accountable to no one.

4th Similarity) Both dark princes (heirs to the kingdoms) end up caring for their captives way more than they should. And their parents forbid it! Of course it wouldn’t be romance novel without the forbidden love element, but the ‘hunters that fall in love with their prey against their family’s wishes’ theme is so delightfully cliché it’s almost a genre.

Ok, so enough of this spouting off of similarities. I think you get the point. But what I haven’t explained to you is just how fucking addictive this story is. It’s been a long time since I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning scrolling on my e-reader like a fucking word devouring zombie crackhead. I’ve been shit for work all week and, most of all, I’m pissed that I have to wait till August to read the next book. GODDAMN IT! I’m not a patient person so waiting for my Jet-fix is going to suck.

If you ignored my warning and are tantalized by what you’ve read here, read this book—series. Do it. You’ll love every fucking moment.
