Angy’s Book & Audiobook Review: 5 stars

Kristen Ashley made me a biker fan!! First with Joker and now with High! GIMME MORE!!

I could say this book has 3 parts: the past, the reunion 20 years later and the happily ever after. In the past Millie Cross and Logan High Judd meet each other and fall in love. They had a beautiful relationship, they made so many plans for them as a couple but sadly things ended so abruptly and badly, that it changed them for ever. 20 years later they had a not so pretty reunion –I have to say I almost DNF because I couldn’t stand how High treated Millie, and even less how she let him treat her that way- but after a lot of DRAMA they find their HEA! And the good thing about this book is that we get to read A LOT about their HEA, which made me super happy *happy dance*.

The plot of this book was very unique and had some twists I didn’t see coming, the development of the characters was amazing. Millie and Logan are two people I could totally be friends with, they were mature, very kind and very down to earth. I understand what they went through and I cried like a baby with some parts, it broke my heart in so many ways, but how Logan handle all the truth was really the best of this book for me, “his flowery biker goodness.”

All the bikers and their old women were also great. I’ve only read Ride Steady and this one, and I can say I know all of them very well. My favorite is still Elvira. She is freaking awesome! I wish she had her book and know how Malik makes an “honest” woman of her.

Kate Russell is a very talented narrator. She can make any voice she want and make it very believable. Her voice for Millie was sweet. Her voice for Logan was strong and manly. Her voices for the bikers and their women were my favorite. This book has biker slang in the dialogues and if it wasn’t for the narration, I would have been lost half of the book. This is a perfect companion for this story.

Carolin’s Book Review: 4 stars

Ok, so I just popped my KA-cherry. “Walk Through Fire” was my first book by her. And I would have anticipated it to be like most first times are: quick and awkward. But it wasn’t that way at all, I’d rather describe it as looooooong and intense.

I tried to start reading the book with an open mind. After all, I had no experience in that particular sub-genre (MC-Books) to compare it to. I’ve only read one other biker-story before, and that was only interesting for me, since it was so deliciously dark. But this KA-book was anything but dark, in contrary – it was very romantic at heart. That all resulted in me, being surprised and amazed and a little dumbstruck.

“Walk Through Fire” is about Logan Judd aka High, Low, Snooks or Snooks’ums and Millie. It is a biker-themed second chance romance, surrounding the Chaos-MC-Club. Their love story spans 23 years in total and is a very intense and angsty rollercoaster-ride of emotions. But it’s not only a love-story with hot sex-scenes, it’s also a story about loyalty and trust; of family, friendship and brotherhood/sisterhood and ultimately a lesson about sacrifices.

The writing was great, it kept me interested through the whole book. Even if the slang was hard to get used to in the beginning… But after I read a few chapters, it flowed easier. Only the pace left me a bit bipolar, to be honest. The first half of the book was paradise for an angst-addict like me, it was sooooo good with so many emotions literally swirling from the pages. But then from about 52% – it was a lot slower and dragged from there on out until the epilogue. Sure, there was a lot of stuff to be straightened out and it was even a bit mysterious somewhere within. But after that fast, dramatic and super-angsty start, it just wasn’t enough for me personally. It just was way too long for almost 50% of the book. So, after all, I’d give the first half of the book 5+ stars, the second half 3 stars and the beautiful epilogue 4 stars. Another thing that irritated me a little was, that everything was described very detailed. Like, what everyone was wearing, eating or what someone’s house looked like. It was a bit too detailed for my personal liking.

I’d recommend the book for KA-Fans, everyone who loves biker-themed books and second chance-romance. All in all, I’m rating “Walk Through Fire” with 4 stars.
