~Vivian’s Review~
Where to even begin?!?! Callie Hart blows my mind away with her abilities to write a story and spin a completely believable world outside of the norm that we live in. She makes the story so enthralling and all-consuming, that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to not be completely spell bound by it. She did this for me with her BLOOD AND ROSE’S series and now she has done it again with her DEAD MAN’S INK series! I read REBEL (Dead Man’s Ink #1) back when it was released in Feb.2015 and after being tortured with that cliffhanger of an ending, I was DYING to know where Jamie “Rebel” and Sophia’s story was going to go! After 9 painful months of waiting, ROGUE was finally on my kindle! I did a reread of REBEL in preparation because I have a terrible memory and I knew I needed to go into ROGUE with all the finer details I may have forgotten from REBEL to completely appreciate it. But you know what, after starting ROGUE, I realized that I wouldn’t have needed to do a reread because Callie does a phenomenal job of refreshing your memory throughout the book. Again, she brought her all-consuming ability back to the table and had me trapped right from chapter 1.
I think one of my favorite aspects of ROGUE (besides the plot and story itself of course *wink*) was the further development of the characters. Sophia is officially on my top favorite heroines list! She is so bada**!! Callie does a remarkable job of building her character to even more depths. Jamie may go by the name Rebel, as president of his Motorcycle Club, but Sophia is most definitely the rebel in this story. She is stubborn, determined, strong, and a complete bada**. I loved watching her character really come into her own in this book. I feel as if we finally get to see a glimpse of the woman, whom we first met in the BLOOD AND ROSE’S series, in this book.
“You are the strongest f*cking person I know, okay. Don’t you ever f*cking doubt that.” –Rebel.
She most definitely ain’t Alexis anymore…Alexis died back in an alleyway in Seattle. She is now Sophia.
“I have nothing to go back to, Rebel. I have a family and a college degree and I have an apartment sitting empty in Seattle, but you’re not there with me then I have nothing.” –Sophia.
She finally starts to realize that this is her life now and she is going to embrace it completely…all the bad and ugly because if she doesn’t, she knows she’ll never she Jamie again. And then there’s Jamie “Rebel”. Good gawd, where to start on this man *wink*. He is the complete package. He is loving, intelligent, s*xy as h-e-double hockey sticks and will protect Sophia to the ends of the earth. He, himself is a determined man and he knows what he wants out of life and whom he wants. Sophia is in a sense “bringing him back to life”. He thought that the good part of him, the part of himself that was “Jamie” died a long time ago, but Sophia is making him realize that Jamie is very much alive and because of that he is finding love for the first time in his life <3 These two characters complement each other perfectly. The way Callie writes these two unlikely of characters falling for each other is mesmerizing and beautiful. Like Rebel said in book one,
“The Widow Makers say I’m stone-cold. They say I’m made of ice. When the rest of the club meets you, I’m pretty sure they’re gonna say you’re made of fire.” –Rebel.
FIRE AND ICE <3
ROGUE has it all! It is suspenseful; it is s*xy; it has this commanding quality that keeps you glued to your seat until the last page. Callie did a magnificent job of tying up some loose ends from book 1, but she also left some untied to keep us readers craving more! And I do crave more…can it be Jan already?!?! I can tell it’s going to be one of those bittersweet moments for me…I know because when I finally have book 3 in my hands and I’m reading it…then it’ll hit me. THIS.IS.THE.END *tear*. I don’t know if I’ll get enough of Jamie and Sophia’s story! This series is most definitely one of my top favs of all time and will always be in the back of my mind. If you’ve read the BLOOD AND ROSE’S series and loved Zeth and Sloane…then you’ll most definitely love this series. Jamie does an astonishing job of rivaling Zeth in the top book boyfriend category…those men know how to treat their ladies *wink*.
***SIDE NOTE: I would recommend reading Callie Hart’s BLOOD AND ROSE’S series before reading this series, but you don’t have to. This is just my personal opinion. DEAD MAN’S INK is a spinoff of the BLOOD AND ROSE’S series and takes place BEFORE BLOOD AND ROSE’S.
