Ten years ago US Marine Sebastian Hunter was a teenager in love with a married woman—a woman who broke his heart.
Kicking his heels in a desk job in Geneva, he’s given the chance to get back to the action. Life just might be worth living again … until he meets the woman who broke him 10 years earlier.
Now she’s back, but he’ll do anything to keep her at arm’s length. Temptation doesn’t come much stronger, but he’d be a fool to fall for her again…
Caroline Venzi is a successful journalist, preparing to head out to report from the front lines of the war in Afghanistan. Love is the last thing on her mind when she crosses paths with Marine Sebastian Hunter.
Will this chance encounter reignite the erotic passion of their past?

*** This review may contains spoilers for “The Education of Sebastian” and “The Education of Caroline” ***
“Semper Fi” is “The Education of Caroline” told in Sebastian Hunter’s POV. “TEoC” was told solely from the female MC Caroline’s POV, now the author wrote everything through Sebastian’s eyes. We experience their ups and downs from the fateful meeting at the briefing in Geneva before both, Sebastian and Caroline, start their journey to Afghanistan. They have been separated for 10 years and get this rare second chance in life and love…
The writing was amazing like always in Jane Harvey-Berrick’s books. The only difference to the writing in Caroline’s POV was, that there was a lot of cussing and profanities going on… LOL Jane really aced the male thinking like a pro!
Normally, I always shy away from retellings of books I’ve read in the female’s POV. There were a few novels that really disappointed me and I kinda promised myself to not read such retellings anymore. BUT since “The Education of Sebastian/Caroline” are two of my favorite books ever and I was really curious how the author would get the writing of a real dude and marine done, I gave it a try after all. And I’m glad I did!
As a matter of fact, “Semper Fi” is nothing new. But even though I didn’t have the thrill of reading stuff the author made up just for the sake of having an unrealistic continuation of a book that was perfect as it was, I never got bored. The additional insight into the life of a soldier/marine was shocking, enlightening and very emotional. The last 20% of the book made me cry both for Sebastian & Caroline and for the unfairness that is war and how it influences our lives and the world we live in.
Jane Harvey-Berrick manages to tell ugly truths in beautiful stories and manages to leave you with a happy feeling and a very busy head. I love that about her! And that is the reason I always recommend everyone to read her books, most of all “TEoS and TEoC”.
All in all, I rate “Semper Fi” with 4,5 stars. I’d recommend to read “The Education of Sebastian” and “The Education of Caroline” first.
Now for the cover – sorry but I have to mention it… Holy mother of all sexy covers, my ovaries just exploded LOL
Thank you Jane, for always giving us female readers eyecandy deluxe and for making my heart sing happy songs!!! <3
