Erika
I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist.
My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.
Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.
Because he’s finally noticed me.
Michael
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.
In my city.
Unprotected.
The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.
We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

Book Review: 5 stars
“Corrupt” is the story of Erika, or short Rika. She just starts college and wants to begin a new life for herself in the city, away from the overbearing people in her ex-boyfriend Trevor’s home. Rika is not the good girl everyone believes her to be – but the person who knows her best doesn’t give her the attention she craves so much. Worse even, he and his friends – the four Horsemen – wreak heavoc in her life and try to ruin everything she has worked hard for. But why are they so hellbend on hurting her?
“Corrupt” is something completely different from one of my favorite authors, Penelope Douglas. Biggest difference: The book is much more mature than her “Fall Away”-Series and has a darker undertone in it. BUT I wouldn’t call “Corrupt” necessarily a dark romance. It was a very good case of mindfuck in its finest, but not too dark.
It’s for the best if you start blindly with the book – the story unfolds beautifully in front of your eyes.
The book kept me glued to the pages until the wee hours of morning. I just couldn’t stop reading and I wanted to know so badly what would happen next… Needless to say, “Corrupt” was very fast-paced and Pen Douglas brought the angst-level up another notch in this book! Oh, how I loved the different feelings this story brought out in me.
Before I started the book, I was a bit afraid, that Douglas wouldn’t be able to combine dark, erotica plus romance in “Corrupt”, but I was very satisfied with each and every point. The story was balanced very well.
One thing I have to mention or I’ll explode, are the sex-scenes. Holy mother trucker!!! Penelope Douglas really aced that part! It took a while to bring out the real stuff so to say, but there was one scene in particular, that made me gasp and blush and that almost never happens to such a smut-lover like me! Wow, my congratulations for one of the most erotic M/F/M scenes I’ve ever read.
All in all, I rate “Corrupt” with 5 stars and can definitely recommend it to everyone who has an open mind and loves romance books with an explosive plot.
Now, I hope like hell, that Penelope Douglas will write more books about Kai, Will and Damon and maybe even makes a new series out of “Corrupt”, there were four Horsemen after all 😉 I’d definitely love to see how the life of the other guys goes on.
