Book Review: 3 stars
“Fighting Dirty” is the story of Armie Jacobson. He’s just starting his career in the professional MMA world. If only his head was completely in the game – and not with his best friend’s little sister, Merissa…
So, I’m gonna get my complaints off my chest first. There were quite a few, hence only the 3 stars rating. After a very good start with off the charts chemistry between the two MC’s, I was then soon disappointed by a steady stream of “I want you, but can’t have you”’s by Armie, the male MC. Why this whole best friend’s little sister thing is so forbidden – I have no friggin’ clue! Obviously, the guy has to have some redeeming qualities or else you’d be a big dumbass for having a douche as your best friend… So, why not him for his little sister – like, shouldn’t he be the brother’s first choice? This book is oozing clichés, so – of course – Armie is also a man-whore. He likes his single malt scotch served with a hot threesome. But even then, I don’t get the whole forbidden part. Furthermore, I thought the conversations those guys all had with each other were totally ill-timed. See, neither the male nor the female MC did talk to the very reasonable brother about their growing feelings for each other, but they talked their asses off as soon as they started to have sex with each other. Sigh. Why do I start a convo about trivial stuff after I just had the guy’s dick in my mouth? Double sigh. Then there was the whole suspense thrown into the mix. Too many strange names, too much happening for this novel. The focus should have been more on the couple instead, IMO. And last but not least, there was something, I found incredibly unrealistic and just annoying. I won’t describe it here, since that would definitely spoiler too much. But it was just another point for me to shake my head about in “Fighting Dirty”.
Now, as for the positive stuff. Like mentioned earlier, I loved the hot as hell chemistry between Armie and Merissa at the beginning, the angst was palpable. Before it all just became too much and too unrealistic. The writing was good, it made me chuckle a time or two. The sex was okay-ish, though I would have loved for the author to make up her mind, if she’d like her male MC to be into BDSM or not and not to lead that poor female MC on like that. And another plus for me was the sweet ending.
All in all, I rate “Fighting Dirty” with 3 stars and can recommend it to fans of fighter romance, my issues seem relatively personal, I guess.
