I can’t say I enjoyed reading this book in the beginning because it was very emotional, very touching and moving. I cried with every single letter and it reminds me of my dad, who is no longer with me and it makes me realize how much I miss him. But I really wanted to give it a try, because I could tell that this was a healing book too. It shows us how the protagonist deal with the grief of losing his wife, so there is hope, life goes on and you can find the light at the end of the tunnel.
Luke Cawley married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life. They had big plans, a house and he was becoming a contractor, unfortunately Emily, his wife, got cancer and died. Luke was devastated, he felt like he had no meaning for life, he missed Emily and he couldn’t get over her death. On the 1 year anniversary of her death, Luke receives a package with 9 letters, all written by his dead wife. Emily knew her husband so well and he knew too that he wouldn’t be able to move on, to deal with her death, so before she died, she left him letters. Each letter is a request, a task that will help Luke to deal with his grief and to move on and live his life. The first task was getting a dog, so he got one and he also met this nice girl that will make him smile again, but he wasn’t ready for a new relationship… Well, that is what he thought 😉
This is Blake’s debut novel, but you won’t even notice…it’s well written and he makes you feel all the FEELS!!!! At the end, you’ll realize that things always happens for a reason and that we have a purpose on earth and no matter how hard life gets, in the end, we will survive. So give it a try.
