Sadie Hunt isn’t perfect—but her husband is. Nathan Hunt has her coffee waiting every morning. He holds her hand until the last second. He worships the Manhattan sidewalk she walks on. Until one day, he just…stops. And Sadie finds herself in the last place she ever expected to be. Lonely in her marriage.
When rugged and sexy Finn Cohen moves into the apartment across the hall, he and Sadie share an immediate spark. Finn reveals dreams for a different life. Sadie wants to save her marriage. Their secrets should keep them apart, not ignite a blistering affair. But while Sadie’s marriage runs colder by the day, she and Finn burn hotter.
Her husband doesn’t want her anymore.
The man next door would give up everything to have her.

“Slip of the tongue” is the story of Nate and Sadie. They have been a happy couple for many years and their marriage was always a loving one. Until Nate just stopped showing affection to Sadie. He simply went from treating her like a princess to treating her like dirt. Sadie has no idea why and soon starts to question everything they build up together. And when their new neighbor Finn shows Sadie just how good affection feels after her husband has starved her of it for months, she takes it willingly, thinking there is nothing more to lose with Nate anyway. Or is there?
Writing this review is a very hard task for me. I loved this book on one side, but hated it on the other. It‘s hard to explain that in all its depths without spoiling too much. So I’ll just stick to the facts and try to keep this review short, since it’s best to start the book with as few information as possible. First, I looooved the writing! It made for a very emotional gripping read and sucked me in completely within the first few pages. The balance between the different emotions was pretty good, although it was admittedly focused on the angst. But that didn’t bother me – in the opposite LOL The whole subject of the struggles with being married and everyday life interfering felt so real, that I started to compare my own life with Sadie’s… Although we couldn’t be more different. But I loved the authentic way everything has been described. The book also had a forbidden vibe to it and that made for some very explosive sex-scenes. The characters were… Um. How do I explain that? I guess they were pretty amazing at the core, but their actions blurred their images sometimes really badly and I wanted to throttle some of them. The twists and turns kept me glued to the pages, although I could guess the biggest twist pretty early on. So why only 4 stars then?
The ending cost the book one whole star for me. Yes, there is a happy ending and yes, I was pretty content with how the author chose to wrap things up. BUT I couldn’t stomach how she let things turn out with Finn. That broke my heart. I just hope, that he will get his own story with happy ending one day. I’d definitely love to read more about him.
All in all, I rate “Slip of the tongue” with 4 stars and can recommend it to everyone who loves angsty and forbidden-ish romance.
