Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or so numb that you actually felt high? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between.
Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don't care about anything or anyone.
Except Tatum.
I love her so much that I hate her. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn't trust her or anyone else.
So I hurt her. I pushed her away.
But I still need her. The sight of her centers me, and I can pool all of my anger into her. Engaging her, challenging her, bullying her...they are my food, my air, and the last part of me that feels anything human.
But she left. She went to France for a year, and came back a different girl.
Now, when I push, she pushes back.
5 stars
Tate and Jared were best friends for years. They did pretty much everything together and then Jared went to spend a summer with his dad when they were 14 years old. When he came back he was a completely different person. He wasn’t the sweet and kind friend to Tate like before, he was like transformed into a person who couldn’t seemed to hate her more by each day.
So for the next couple of years all their friendship just vanished and the hate grow more and more. Jared did everything in his power to hurt Tate in every way possible like a true bully.
Tate went to France for a year and when she came back she too was a different person now. No more, poor Tate. This new Tate will fight back.
This book was well needed! This is the IT factor that I was missing in the bully book. I wanted to hear how Jared saw things, how he felt, what drove him and his actions. What I really LOVE about this part is that this is not a retelling of the same book with a male POV. The book is in the same period of time like bully and some parts are brought up again, but they don’t sound the same. It is the same situations but with Jared’s way to explain them to us. And many other things that we never found out in Bully that were so important for the story plot and to understand how Jared’s soul was hurt and everything that his heart had to endure. I loved how Penelope wrote this amazing addition to an already great story. The perfect way to spin up an existing story with a fresh breath of air.
Nelson Hoobs was the perfect choice for this job. He really became Jared and the emotions and actions shown by him did the story justice in every way possible. My heart was breaking while curtain things were brought up and Nelson guides the readers through it flawlessly.
Looking forward to more.
