Standalone M/M romance.

I was afraid to fly.
He made me soar.

After years of climbing the ladder of success in the music industry, I finally had everything I could want.
Yet I still found myself wandering through life alone.

Captain Evan Roth was the one man I never saw coming.
Tall, dark, mysterious… Straight.

We were both damaged beyond repair and searching for something so elusive we weren’t sure it even existed.

But, when two broken souls collide in midair, falling is a given.

I just never expected to crave the spiral down.

Caro’s Review: 5 stars

“The spiral down” is the story of Henry Alexander, superstar extraordinaire. He has everything he wishes for. Though there is one thing that bothers the living daylights out of him: Flying. But when he meets his new pilot, there seems to be a turn in events and Henry is send soaring…

It’s no secret that I love Aly Martinez’ “On the Ropes”-Series. I then had the opportunity to read her new standalone book “The Fall up” last year, but it was only okay-ish for me. The emotions weren’t there like I’d hoped for. So, I was a bit hesitant to read the second book in this series of standalone novels. But oh boy, I’m now so glad I did because “The spiral down” was amazing! It has won my heart over and landed itself at second place in my “best M/M-reads ever”-list. Honestly, everything about this book was good. It was funny as hell. Henry was an adorable goofball and Evan was a sarcastic smartmouth, but adorable all the same. Their convos with each other? No. Words! I can’t count the times my poor husband graced me with the death-stare because I woke him up in the middle of the night, laughing my butt off. Their chemistry together was simply hot and you could feel the tender feelings between them grow with each step they took, apart and together. Henry was more of a drama-queen, whereas Evan was the solid rock. But together, they made for a beautiful couple.

The emotions were all very palpable and very well balanced. There was the sex – not too much, albeit quite explicit –, the humor, the love, the angst, the love and oh yeah, the angst. For everyone, who has read book one “The Fall up”, Livee and Sam make a few appearances and their story has been continued very beautifully, but without taking up too much attention.

All in all, I rate “The spiral down” with 5 solid stars and can recommend it to everyone, not only fans of M/M-books. It has definitely been a favorite of 2016 for me already! Second book in a series of standalone novels, complete with HEA. Due to language and explicit sexual situations I recommend readers 18+.

Lisa’s Review: 5+ Stars

*Clapping hands* Aly. Aly. Aly. Well done Aly. Very well done.

As a self proclaimed reader, lover, and connoisseur of MM romance, I’m always sceptical about authors—I haven’t read yet—writing it. Can’t help it, I’m a pain in the a*s like that.

When it comes to MM romance, I have needs. What are these needs you ask? Well, in short, a really good MM storyline should have some specific criteria in it for me to get into it…or should I say for me to become emotionally invested…

  • First and foremost, I need plot. There has to be a plot—can’t deal with too much licking and sticking without a good story. Sorry. I just can’t.
  • Second, I need passion. Passion is the fuel for the story. Doesn’t matter if it’s MM, MW, or WW. I need passion.
  • Third, power. I like my men masculine and powerful not matter what genre I’m reading. The more manly, the better.
  • Fourth, I need a certain amount of possessiveness to come from my MCs. My MM MCs/love interests need to NEED and want each other. And they need to want other people to f*ck off when it comes to their BOOs too!

And let me tell you, The Spiral Down has all of that and more! Not since Tiffany Reisz’s The Prince have I read such good MM. @AlyMartinez, that’s a huge compliment.

Ok, so enough of what I need and like, and let’s get on with the review deets shall we?

The story kicks off with Henry Alexander, a hugesexy as hellrock star (featured in Aly’s first book of the series The Fall Up #1) that’s suddenly in desperate need of a pilot. And when a very young very handsome Evan Roth is in called to fly Henry to his show…Henry isn’t having it. Why wouldn’t a notoriously single and openly gay Henry welcome a seemingly straight yet sinfully sexy young pilot to fly him high you ask? Well, because of Aly’s amazing writing and complex character construction, lots of reasons. But mostly, it’s because Henry’s been through some seriously traumatic shiz in his life and he’s not quite ready to relinquish the control he’s created around himself. Also, He’s only attracted to straight men. Complicated much? You have no idea. *wink* Want to know more? Read the book. It’s so freaking good.

We’d only been together twice, but the ground was shaking and my decade-old walls were starting to crumble.  I could loose myself trying to rebuild them while the super storm know as Henry alexander ominously hovered over me. Even the strongest hurricanes had to die out eventually. Maybe Henry was mine.

The Spiral Down is full of surprises that kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next and if my two studmuffins were going to end up together or not. That alone warrants a reading. To say that I loved this story is an understatement. I FLOVED it. It was perfection.

My name filled his every emotion. And that filled me in places I hadn’t known were empty.
