There’s just one semester left at the Briar School for Girls in Sonoma, CA. But it will take more than straight As for Lana Goodwin to survive . . .

***
Senior year is not going well for 17-year-old Lana Goodwin. Her father’s vintage car business is about to crash and burn, the nicest (and cutest) teacher at school was fired under a cloud of scandal, and her hot sort-of boyfriend may or may not have something big to hide.

She’s also totally over being the class pauper. It’s bad enough her dad was briefly married to the head of the board—the rich, cruel, impeccably groomed Ramona Crawford. What’s worse is going to school with her vindictive ex-stepsister, who never misses an opportunity to make her life hell. Not ever.

It also happens to be the tenth anniversary of her mother’s suicide. No one knows why Annie Goodwin jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge the day after Christmas. She didn’t leave a note. She wasn’t sick. Even Lana’s father can’t explain it. Ten years later, someone—or something—starts sending her clues about her mother’s past.

Before Lana can escape to college, she finds herself in a life-or-death race to uncover her mother’s long-buried secrets.

Can she claim her birthright before her future and her life are snatched away?

Valley of the Moon is a modern-day fairy tale with some intense themes.

A contemporary YA romantic mystery for ages 14 and up.

5+ Perfect stars

Sometimes in my life, I dream that maybe someday, someone will come looking for me and tell me that I’m the heir of a fortune…*lol*…that never happened, so I guess I’ll live that dream through all the fairytales I read instead.

This is Bronwyn Archer’s debut novel, so there was no way to know what to expect from her writing or her stories, but the blurb had intrigued me and since I trust my “books instincts”, I asked for it 😉 I’m thrilled that I did! This book has everything that I love in a novel: fairy tales, mystery, suspense and BONUS, there’s a ghost situation involved in the story! So this book has everything I love and then some! Add to that, amazing writing and you get pure PERFECTION!

The author had me immersed in the story from page 1 and I didn’t want to leave! It was hard for me to put it down! The plot was a unique “modern day tale”, set in a great location (never heard of “Sonoma Valley” before), with lots of twists, tension, some sadness and a great heroine (Lana Goodwin). I instantly connected with Lana. She’s an independent and hardworking girl who wants to finish her last semester at Briar School and leave Sonoma for good, since her mom died her life was a living hell, she had some traumatic events that she wants to leave behind.

This story vaguely resembles the fairytale, CINDERELLA, but don’t let that fool you, this is like a dark CINDERELLA…you got the girl who had a rough life, who lost her mom when she was seven, got a mean step mom (along with a stepsister) both makes her life a living hell. But whereas in CINDERELLA there’s a fairy Godmother and Prince that “save the day”….Will there be a Fairy Godmother that comes along one night to grant her one wish? Does a Prince come to save her? Do they have a happily ever after? I will let you find out for yourselves 😉

Honestly, this story is worth reading! All the angst, sadness, suspense and happy moments that happen in Lana’s life make this book as perfect as can be! I can’t believe this is the author’s debut novel! Her spectacular writing left me captivated and spellbound! I can’t wait for more about Lana!
