Andrew Beckwith has already devoted his life to one girl—and as far as he’s concerned, she’s all he needs. The rough-around-the-edges bad boy left his reckless ways behind six years ago when his daughter Bell was born. To the female population’s dismay, he’s unapologetically single. When Bell’s mother walked out on them years ago, he vowed never to let another woman close enough to hurt them again.

Amelia Van Ecken isn’t just another woman. She’s an independent, smart, and savvy businesswoman who doesn’t have time for sex, much less love. In the midst of a drawn-out, bitter divorce, all she wants is to bury herself in work. But when sharp-tongued Amelia and stubborn Andrew cross paths, sparks fly—and burn. Two things are obvious in an instant: they want each other, and they’re from different worlds. It’s the perfect formula for an off-the-charts one-night stand. After all, it’s not as if opposites ever attract.

The First Taste, a standalone spin-off of the Slip of the Tongue.

Book Review: 5 stars

This is the story of two people who have sworn off everything that has to do with love and commitment. Amelia and Andrew have both been burned badly in the name of love and have no interest in putting themselves on the line ever again.

But sometimes life and faith have other plans for us no matter how much we fight against it. And these two are in for one helluva ride of their own.

This is book 2 in the “Slip Of The Tongue Series” but can be read as a standalone as well in my opinion. Book 1 was about Andrews’s sister Sadie which was beyond emotional and angsty and we get to see more of Sadie in this book. So I was expecting and preparing myself for a another angsty story here and maybe there was a little bit of it but in very small doses for my taste. This book is about two people who were hurt badly and how they are finding their way back to opening their hearts for love again and letting go of the past. It was a feel good book for me and just what I needed at the moment and I really enjoyed every second of it. Amelia is strong and independent woman on the outside not caring for much but herself but on the inside she is just a human who wants to heal and not feel pain and betrayal anymore.  Andrew has had his share of painful moment and betrayal and his only focus in life is his beautiful little daughter Bell. I simply adored every single quality that he possessed and he is one great book boyfriend to add into my collection.

I loved reading about these two and their dialogues were just amazing. The writing was easy and approachable for the wider audience. I loved to see how much thought and love author has put into the story and development of her characters and how it all came down a great plot and connecting situations that characters were going through.  Two so different people and yet so alike and they melted perfectly together. One thing about this book that speaks loudest to me is that’s so INSANELY HOT….like eye burning hot from reading…getting that hot feeling inside of your body wishing you were in that same setting yourself *wink wink* Someone in this household is getting lucky tonight 😉 *Ok ok I will behave myself and return to writing this review as one should*

There are elements of friendship too and everyday battles of raising a child as a single parent. How to find your strength in your weakness and be the better you.

I would definitely recommend this read and I can’t wait for audiobook to be released and another chance for me to devourer it all over again.

I am looking forward to read more by this author and see what more she has in stored for us. Congratulations on another great book Jessica. Keep them coming!
