Book Review: 4 stars
Oh wow! This was a great story. And although I’ve read another book this year already with a pretty similar plot, I must say that “Junkie” was better. The author wasn’t as hellbend on shocking her readers with unnecessarily creepy abuse-scenes like in the other book. She was more focused on character development and the romance aspect of the story. I highly appreciated that. Her writing was amazing, too. This was my first book by this author but won’t be my last.
The only thing that I couldn’t get used to – and that cost this book the last point to a five-star-rating – was that the male MC was ought to be a big drug-boss. But in my personal opinion, he was a sweet guy who wanted a personal revenge and had to do a bit bad stuff in order to gain it. I couldn’t believe the persona the author made him up to be to the persona I actually saw in him. I wouldn’t categorize “Junkie” a dark read, either. It has some darker elements in it, but it is really well balanced and most of all, not disturbingly shocking. So glad for that and that made me like it even more.
An important information here, is that “Junkie” is part of a duet and ends in a cliffhanger.
I rate “Junkie” with 4 stars and am now looking forward to the sequel! Definitely a recommendation to everyone, who likes their romance on the gritty side and with a good dose of suspense.
