I sell drugs. Heroin to be specific. And I'm fucking good at my job. Enough to fight my way to the top position, controlling all of Austin's supply.

So what if I had to kill the previous boss to do it. I do what has to be done. Never cared about consequences because I never had anything to lose.

Until I met Miri. My doll. She's my weakness and somehow, my enemies found out about her.

If they hurt her, they will regret the day they ever heard my name. Boss. They call me Boss for a reason. What I say goes, including the price on the heads of anyone who dares to fuck with what belongs to me.

My Miri.

Book Review: 3 stars

three-stars

Sad to say this, but all pleasantries aside, this book was just too much for me. Whereas the first installment in this duet, “Junkie”, was well balanced with mystery, romance, suspense and character growth, this sequel was not as well balanced. The focus was clearly on all the mystery and suspense going on. I was permanently trying to keep up with each and every twist and turn that was thrown at me in rapid succession. All good and well, but the character growth and development in relationship was totally missing. It was as if with the elimination of everything that stood between them, suddenly their relationship was written in stone and happily ever after they lived. No mention of the breach of trust that occurred in my opinion sometime in all this clusterfuck. No nothing. It was not really believable in my mind, not even in consideration that this is fiction. Nope, I would have needed more focus on their relationship and still each personal character growth. There were decisions made, that were so contrary to everything that was said and done by the main characters before that I had to go back in the book to check on the facts again. Just to make sure I didn’t confuse stuff.

Maybe it was just me and my too romantic core and my sense of righteousness but I just couldn’t get over a lot of stuff.

What definitely saved my rating for this book was the writing. Heather C. Leigh’s writing is amazing.

Just to shoot off a short warning. There are people out there who need to know things like these in advance – there is explicit rape in this book. And if you classify a ton of physical brutality as dark, this book definitely fits the bill. Though I could only roll my eyes about those scenes, because they were quite too much exaggerated, some may find them disturbing. So heed yourselves warned.

All in all, I rate “Jagger” with 3 stars. One for the first installment, one for the writing and one for the super-sweet ending. I don’t really know if I would recommend this duet. But seen as I’m a lot picky with suspense in my romance novels, I’d recommend to give those books a try.
