Forget the ghosts, Mica. It’s real, live people you should fear.
Tragedy has brought Micaela Burgos back to her hometown of Sleepy Hollow. It’s been six years since she chose to live with her father in Miami instead of her eccentric mother. And now her mother is dead.
This town will suck you in and not let go.
Sleepy Hollow may be famous for its fabled headless horseman, but the town is real. So are its prejudices and hatred, targeting Mica’s family as outsiders. But ghostly voices carry on the wind, whispering that her mother’s death was based on hate…not an accident at all. With the help of two very different guys—who pull at her heart in very different ways—Micaela must awaken the hidden secret of Sleepy Hollow…before she meets her mother’s fate.

book review: 4 “Hollow” stars
I really don’t know how can I express my feelings for this book. I was constantly going up and down, so I guess this is how it’s going to go too.
Wake the Hollow is a young adult story about a girl named Micaela, or aka Mica in the story, who, after her mother’s death she has to go back to the little town she was born in, spent her first 12 years of her life before she moved in Miami and which she never wanted to return in. So, as soon as she arrives back to that “haunted” place, a chain of unexpected things is set and she finds herself in the middle of it with no idea what to do or how to react.
The blurb isn’t actually so enlighting about what you will have to expect in case you decide to give it a try, but, then again, that was what intrigued me the most and made me “wish for it” on NetGalley. So, now that I am officially one of its reader/reviewer, I can easily say and assure you that I didn’t regret it one bit. Contrary, I enjoyed a wonderful journey of Fantasy which I had missed which also gave me some unexpected knowledge. Plus, another thing about this story is that, it includes a bit of a love-triangle element but actually it doesn’t. I confused you, huh? I know. Well, the explanation of this trick quiz of mine is that, although Mica is getting “flirtatious” with two men while her stay on Sleepy Hollow, this is how far it gets; except for some kisses with the one of them. So, no romance romance here. Only amazing, nice, satisfying fantasy.
“I never cared what other people thought about you. Why should I care now?”
Triana honestly wrote one of the most completed, complex and addicting female characters I have ever read. And, by that, in no way do I mean that the rest of them in this book aren’t as magnificent. Just that, since it was Mica’s POV, she gave more attention on making her a unique specimen and creating the necessary characterizations and “skills” she needed so she can solve the mystery behind the request to her to return to her old town. Every little piece she got to figure out, made her more intriguing and me more determined to get to the end. She totally gave me some very intense shivers down my back.
I really don’t want to say much about the story because it’s one those that, no matter what summary-of-your-own try to do, there will be unavoidable spoilers in it and that’s something that I care not to do. This is a journey that you have to go totally virgin – not with the literal meaning of it obviously :p – in, so you get to experience it without ANY tip or revealing teaser. Believe me, your reward will be that much more gratifying and sweeter if you do that. The only thing that needs to be said is that I NEVER SAW THAT DAMN TWIST IN THE END!!! I mean, HOLY CRAP, where did this came from??? My eyes almost bug out of my head when I realized when she was going with it. Certainly one of the most prized moments in my bookworm career!
Gaby Triana is a definite GO for the lovers of great Fantasy. Her writing sweeps you off your feet. And I may not was so much into this story as I turned out to be after the 40% mark, although, he writing never stopped being a match-in-heaven for the Fantasy genre. Also, she was describing so amazing the place that I thought I had spirited right there and witnessing everything in my own eyes and she urged me to search for the actual history behind the people/things she bases this book on. After Wake the Hollow I will definitely keep my eyes open for her future books, because I will always need a great fantasy break.
