“I met the boy I wanted. But then he vanished and a new man claimed me instead. My father approved, my colleagues congratulated, and behind closed doors, I was bedded by a stranger.”

Noelle Charlston lived a fairy-tale life: a doting father, a powerful job, and a future blessed with financial security.

However, two meetings with two men changed her happy existence forever. First, she met the boy who made her heart sing. Second, she met the man who made her blood quiver.

Noelle’s freedom was no longer hers. It belonged to the man her father believed was the perfect match. The man who pulled his lies over everyone he touched.
Including her.

Seduced and manipulated, Noelle lives two lives. The one everyone sees on the outside and the one no one sees on the inside. The lies he spins, the truth he hides, the mystery he webs—it’s all enough to slowly erode the woman she’d been and turn her into something else.

Until her past collides with her present.
And it’s her turn to lie.
To everyone…including herself.

Ralou’s Review: 5 Million stars!!

Do you know that feeling when you are about to read the new book of your all-time-favorite author? That giddiness which leaves no cell in your body unclaimed and unshaken? Well, if you do, then you can understand me better.

“This is crazy.” I hugged him close.
“All things worth fighting for are crazy.”

Crown of Lies is the first part in the brand new series, Truth and Lies Duet, Pepper is introducing to us with the conclusion of 2017’s first month. The story’s lead characters are theoretically two, Penn and Noelle. But, here’s where a small mind game comes in; between these two there is another “character” who lies between a professionally woven web and either keeps the number at 2 or increase it to 3. And even though in the end the truth remains hidden, from a strange perspective, it’s up to you to decide which one is it. So, to avoid spoilers, I will keep my decision also hidden 😉

And it was up to me to decide if I wanted to give him truth or betrayal.

If you are an agony junkie and fan of dark romance, then this book- just like every other Winters book – is for you. The blurb may give some hints but the agony in the actual book is like a living breathing creature who may be invisible but you can feel it in your bones and blood. Also, what got me hooked even more and unable to put it down was the fact that while I was reading, it was like I was hearing Elle’s actual voice in my head telling me her story. It was both a thrilling and a bit terrifying experience since I haven’t felt that before with a character. For a minute there, I was standing speechless over the pages trying to grasp that.

I let life take me wherever it wanted for a change.

My body had, really, a field day with this book. Its reactions would swing in seconds between all kind of possible, known and unknown emotions out there. The one minute I would bite my nails off and sit at the very edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next, and the next my temperature would sky rocket into the “warm and fuzzes with a heavy load of darkness” level in which Pepper is an expert . She delivers the dark sexual tension like no other and these scenes always leave you a body-shaking shiver down your spine. Also, she has a tendency to put her characters through situations who, not only are life-changing and always a well-learned lesson, but also work as never-ending try outs of themselves; like she is testing the depth, limits and strength she the same created for them. Incredibly intriguing, right?

He had a habit of making me forget myself and spinning lies I couldn’t unscramble.

The whole relationship between Penn and Elle could be described as a “Game of Power”. Constantly, they are trying to over-power the other. Which only benefits the web of hidden truths even more, getting them both into more complicated knots with unpredictable endings. You never can predict how each one will end and how the characters will come out of it. But the sure thing  is that the mystery around Penn and the radical transformation Elle gets are linked and can’t go forward without the other. The more the one increases, the other follows on the same footsteps, making these two powerful and passionate individuals fall more into the other.

Winters’s mind never cease to amaze me with the kind of stories it comes up. Stories that, one by one, carve themselves deep into my heart, my subconscious and always are a place that I come back to over and over and over again. And reaching the end of this review, two things go without question: 1) the conclusion of this duet, Throne of Truth, can’t get here fast enough and 2) how high I recommend this series, author, book!!
