I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

***Corrupt is a stand-alone dark romance with no Cliffy

Book Review: 10 Stars

What a way of blowing our minds! I was really, REALLY excited for CORRUPT because Penelope Douglas is one of my favorite authors. I love her writing style and her unique stories. She can do some really “steamy” scenes in her books. *wink* After reading TONS of novels, the sensual factor becomes lacking, but not with CORRUPT. I even found myself blushing at some scenes.

The story was not only extremely well written, but it was completely addictive! I could NOT put it down! My curiosity was piqued immediately and the past to present chapters amped up my intrigue and created a thunderstorm inside me that needed to escape and the only way to do so, was to keep reading.

CORRUPT is Rika’s story. She always has been the “good girl”, the pleasant one, the one with her life all settled and in order, but she never felt right, maybe she is not “that good” and the only person who knows who she really is, is Michael. But Michael just ignores her. He only have her the time of day once, 3 years ago, but has ignored her side. She is about to start college and wants to start over far away from home and as far from the people and town who suffocate her. The only issue is, Michael is going to be in the same town she’s moving to, and he has some plans of his own. You see, 3 years ago, Michael and his friends let Rika join in on their Devil’s Night fun and they paid because of it. Now, she needs to learn a lesson.

3 years ago was the only time Rika felt free and right,  but things didn’t end well and now the Four Horsemen – are coming back into her life for revenge, they want to destroy her. But why? She has no idea what she did to get on their bad side.

Penelope Douglas warned fans that this novel was going to be different than her previous series,  “FALL AWAY series”. She labeled it as more “dark”. I would agree that it was more dark in comparison, but I’m SO happy that she gave it a try, that she wrote it and to show us how versatile an author she can be and giving us this exceptional story. She’s proven to us that she can write exceptional no matter what she gives us. I can’t classify this book other than it was OUTSTANDING and UNIQUE, something I’ve NEVER read before. Pay attention to all the amazing details while reading, Pen even shared with us her pinterest board, so we can have an idea and image of all these amazing scenes. I can’t wait for more stories about the Horsemen! HIDEAWAY (Devils Night #2) is expected to release August 22, 2017.
