one.
Jack’s eyes were starting to bulge as he desperately tried to gasp for air. I stared at him for another second, letting the fact that his life was in my hands really sink in before releasing my grip. The man went sprawling down to the ground, wheezing and coughing. Eric rushed to his side and helped him up.
“This isn’t over! I won’t rest until I’ve taken everything and everyone you love away from you,” Jack choked out, holding his bruised throat.
I felt fury bubble up inside me as I lunged forward, ready to rip him to shreds. My self-control wasn’t as great as I would have liked it to be with these guys. He could threaten me all he wanted, but going after the people I cared about…
Simona’s face flashed before my eyes. Jack probably didn’t even know about my new relationship, but I was suddenly overcome by the urge to protect her.
I stopped myself at the last moment. Eric was already dragging his brother away and the rest of their guys had long scattered. There was nothing to be gained from kicking Jack while he was already down.
“You come near me or my mine and I’ll wipe out your whole pack!” I thundered at him.
This better be the last time I see his face, for his own sake.

M y prince in a shiny new SUV was waiting downstairs at 8 a.m. as promised. I grabbed my purse and rushed outside. I was more than ecstatic to see my man again.
When I ran out the front door, he was standing by the car, leaning on it slightly with his arms crossed. He had on a well-tailored dark suit and looked sexy as hell. I would have gladly ripped it off of him with my teeth if it weren’t for the fact that we both had work to do.
He opened his arms and I ran straight into his tight bear hug. I missed him. I mean I really, really missed him and felt like I never wanted to leave his presence again. He made me feel happy, uplifted and satisfied… Oh so satisfied .
“Morning, babe,” he said, the term of endearment rolling off his lips as if our relationship had lasted forever.
“Hey, you,” I replied with a big, goofy smile on my face.
“Whatever made you that happy, I would like you to keep it in your life,” he commented after looking at my stupid grin.
“I guess you’ll have to stay by my side, then,” I said slyly and left his hug to scramble into the car.
I looked at him through the car window and saw him laugh and shake his head as if in disbelief. He turned and sat in the car with a smile on his face.
“So, how did it go on the site yesterday?” I asked, genuinely interested.
“Well, I think I resolved the issue with a minimum amount of damage,” he said with a little stressed V forming between his eyebrows. “At least I hope so,” he added after thinking about it for a minute.
“I’m sure you did,” I assured him, staying positive.
He needed my optimism, and I was more than ready to provide that for him. Whatever the issues were, I would be there to support him.
“There are some things…” he started, but then stopped his train of thought, concentrating on driving through the city. “There are things you may not understand,” he finished with a serious expression.
“I’m a smart girl,” I replied. “Try me.”
“You see, there are people out there who are not exactly what they seem or claim to be,” he said at a red traffic light, turning to face me so he could read my emotions.
“Are you one of those people?” I asked, attempting to guess at what he was trying to say.
“Yes and no,” he said. “Everything I’ve said so far is true and my feelings for you are also true.”
“Is there something you need to tell me?”
I was getting restless. Was he breaking up with me? Already?
“Yes, there is,” he said with a heavy sigh. “But not right now. I’ll tell you some other time.”
His response was far too mysterious for my liking, but I decided not to press it. He would tell me when he was ready.
