face.
    â€œNothing,” she replied through sniffles.
â€œWhat do you mean, nothing!” Treacherous threw back at her. “You lying here crying and you expect me to believe that, huh? Now tell me what’s wrong.” Treacherous’s words came out in a barrage. He knew Baby was lying to him and he wanted to know why.
â€œI don’t know!” Baby cried. “I don’t know! I don’t fucking know!” she repeated. “I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with me!” Baby became hysterical. Treacherous hadn’t seen her act like that since they were at the mental institution.
He didn’t know what to do. He went with his instincts and did what he felt was the best thing to do. Treacherous grabbed hold of Baby and blanketed her in his arms.
By now Baby’s cries had grown. But the warmth of Treacherous’s body soothed her and made her feel safe. It reminded her of why she loved him so much in the first place. Baby buried her face in Treacherous’s chest. She knew what was wrong with her. She was just embarrassed to say. But she trusted Treacherous. She trusted him with her life. He deserves to know, she reasoned with herself. Fuck it, I’ma just tell him, she decided.
Baby rose up. Treacherous massaged his chest in a circular motion after releasing her.
â€œDid I hurt you?” she asked with concern in her tone.
â€œNah, I’m straight,” he assured her. “You good?” he asked.
A nervous look appeared on Baby’s face. She closed her eyes and opened them back up quickly to evade the image that haunted her thoughts. She took a deep breath. She didn’t know where to begin, so she just blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
â€œThat shit with my mother got me fucked up in the head.”
    â€œI know but—”
â€œNo, let me finish,” Baby interrupted him. “You don’t know, because I don’t even fuckin’ know,” she continued. “But when you put your finger in me it did something to me,” Baby confessed. She didn’t know how to tell him what thoughts had been triggered. “I don’t know why I’m having these fuckin’ feelings.” Baby wiped the tears that spilled out of her eyes.
A puzzled look appeared across Treacherous’s face. “What feelings?” he wanted to know.
Baby took another deep breath. “Feelings about . . .” She paused. “Being with another woman!”
The words spat out of her mouth like venom. Treacherous didn’t know what to say. That was not something he was expecting to hear, or even thought to be what was wrong with Baby. He just stared at Baby in silence.
â€œAren’t you going to say something?” Baby asked him.
â€œSo, what do you want to do?” Treacherous replied.
That made Baby laugh. “What the fuck you mean, what do I want to do?” she repeated his question.
â€œJust what I said: what do you want to do about how you’re feeling?” Treacherous stood his ground. “Because whatever you want to do, I’m with you.” He ended.
Baby stared at him long and hard. This nigga is ahead of his time. Baby smiled on the inside. She had never heard anything more real than the words Treacherous had spoken to her. Here it was: he was willing to stand by her side and hold her hand while she figured out her sexual preference. The thought of it filled Baby’s stomach with butterflies. I would ride with him to the end of the earth, she told herself.
â€œThank you.” Baby smiled. “I’ll work it out.”
â€œDon’t thank me. And nah, we’ll work it out. Together,” Treacherous corrected her.
Baby felt like a schoolgirl. For the first time in a long time she blushed.
â€œYou’re right. We will. Together,” she repeated.
