face. âNothing,â she replied through sniffles. âWhat do you mean, nothing!â Treacherous threw back at her. âYou lying here crying and you expect me to believe that, huh? Now tell me whatâs wrong.â Treacherousâs words came out in a barrage. He knew Baby was lying to him and he wanted to know why. âI donât know!â Baby cried. âI donât know! I donât fucking know!â she repeated. âI donât know what the fuck is wrong with me!â Baby became hysterical. Treacherous hadnât seen her act like that since they were at the mental institution. He didnât know what to do. He went with his instincts and did what he felt was the best thing to do. Treacherous grabbed hold of Baby and blanketed her in his arms. By now Babyâs cries had grown. But the warmth of Treacherousâs body soothed her and made her feel safe. It reminded her of why she loved him so much in the first place. Baby buried her face in Treacherousâs chest. She knew what was wrong with her. She was just embarrassed to say. But she trusted Treacherous. She trusted him with her life. He deserves to know, she reasoned with herself. Fuck it, Iâma just tell him, she decided. Baby rose up. Treacherous massaged his chest in a circular motion after releasing her. âDid I hurt you?â she asked with concern in her tone. âNah, Iâm straight,â he assured her. âYou good?â he asked. A nervous look appeared on Babyâs face. She closed her eyes and opened them back up quickly to evade the image that haunted her thoughts. She took a deep breath. She didnât know where to begin, so she just blurted out the first thing that came to mind. âThat shit with my mother got me fucked up in the head.â âI know butââ âNo, let me finish,â Baby interrupted him. âYou donât know, because I donât even fuckinâ know,â she continued. âBut when you put your finger in me it did something to me,â Baby confessed. She didnât know how to tell him what thoughts had been triggered. âI donât know why Iâm having these fuckinâ feelings.â Baby wiped the tears that spilled out of her eyes. A puzzled look appeared across Treacherousâs face. âWhat feelings?â he wanted to know. Baby took another deep breath. âFeelings about . . .â She paused. âBeing with another woman!â The words spat out of her mouth like venom. Treacherous didnât know what to say. That was not something he was expecting to hear, or even thought to be what was wrong with Baby. He just stared at Baby in silence. âArenât you going to say something?â Baby asked him. âSo, what do you want to do?â Treacherous replied. That made Baby laugh. âWhat the fuck you mean, what do I want to do?â she repeated his question. âJust what I said: what do you want to do about how youâre feeling?â Treacherous stood his ground. âBecause whatever you want to do, Iâm with you.â He ended. Baby stared at him long and hard. This nigga is ahead of his time. Baby smiled on the inside. She had never heard anything more real than the words Treacherous had spoken to her. Here it was: he was willing to stand by her side and hold her hand while she figured out her sexual preference. The thought of it filled Babyâs stomach with butterflies. I would ride with him to the end of the earth, she told herself. âThank you.â Baby smiled. âIâll work it out.â âDonât thank me. And nah, weâll work it out. Together,â Treacherous corrected her. Baby felt like a schoolgirl. For the first time in a long time she blushed. âYouâre right. We will. Together,â she repeated.
