liked to give her a hard time. She was the little sister I never had. “This one afternoon Rachel wasn’t feeling good so we were chilling on the couch watching a movie. Her dad called to check on her and I guess he asked if she needed him to come over. Rachel said no, that I was with her and told her dad my name. Then she gave me a weird look and said that he’d hung up on her. Half an hour later Jack is barging through the door yelling at me to take my hands of his daughter.” Shit, I was damn lucky he hadn’t come in pointing his service gun at me.
“And?” Olivia asked practically jumping in her seat.
“And Rachel asked what was going on. Jack pulled Rachel away from me screaming that I was a drug dealing criminal.”
“Oh my God.” Olivia gasped, her hand shooting up and slapping over her mouth.
My God was right. As long as I lived I would never forget the look Rachel gave me. It was a mixture of betrayal, anger and hurt. The same look Olivia had given Jonah when she found out about the drug business.
“How come you’ve never told us this?” Jonah asked sounding a little hurt.
That was a good question; I rarely talked about Rachel with Jonah or Mason. Maybe it just went too fast; maybe I was being selfish, wanting to keep everything Rachel to myself. Or maybe somewhere in my subconscious I knew that everything I had with Rachel was just too good to last.
“Shh.” Olivia hushed Jonah with a hand over his mouth. “Yell at him later. Right now I want to know what happened.”
“Jesus you’re such a girl.” Jonah grumbled behind Olivia’s hand.
Turning and glaring at Jonah, which had him rethinking his comment, Olivia hissed, “Yes the last time I checked I had boobs and a vagina. The real question is, are your parts girl or boy today?”
Jonah’s hand shot out grabbing on to Olivia’s hand and shoved it down on to his groin. “You tell me baby? What does that feel like to you?”
“Touché Jonah.” Olivia whispered with a shy smile.
“Please for the love God finish your story Denny.” Mason said urgently.
“I told her the truth. I’ve never sold a drug in my life.”
Olivia made a snorting noise while giving me a look that said bullshit.
“We’ve never sold drugs Olivia.” Jonah said losing the flirting tone.
“I know that, but it’s the same thing. Dealing and working for a drug lord is the same evil.”
“I’m not disagreeing with you.” I said looking back at Olivia. “But what could I say? I couldn’t explain it to her, not with her father the fucking cop there.”
“So Rachel never found out?” Olivia asked.
“No, I told her the truth later that night but it didn’t matter.” I said smiling to myself, remembering another look I would never forget. This look was so much better. Hazel eyes filled with tears of overwhelming joy, red lips caught between white teeth as she tried to contain her smile. “Jack started to protest saying I was a liar but his rant was cut off when Rachel started to throw up. After she was done she looked up at me and said ‘oh shit I really am pregnant.’ Then looked at me with the most amazing look I’d ever seen.”
Olivia was smiling like a goof as she tilted her head, a wrinkle appearing on her forehead. “Wait how long where you with Rachel before you met her father?”
Clearing my throat I whispered my answer, “About a month and a half after the first night we met.”
    “And how pregnant was Rachel?”
    “Past six weeks.”
“You knocked her up the first night you met!” Olivia screamed. “Holy shit Denny. Where you happy when she told you?”
“Fuck yeah I was.” I said without a moment’s hesitation. “The woman I loved was carrying the little life we made. Sooner than I wanted, that was for sure, but it didn’t matter. Our love had made the person growing inside her, it was the best feeling in the world.” I whispered feeling sadness and loneliness seep into my bones.
    The car went uncomfortably quiet
