going to the picnic at Devil’s Comfort.”
Just as Eliza’s face began to shutter close, I decided to invite her along.
“You’ll enjoy it Eliza, and it’ll get you out of the house.”
“My social life is fine, Ellie. I have the gardening club on Monday and this afternoon, Helena, Elizabeth and Charlotte, are coming over for a game of bridge.”
“What about the afternoon dance and tea club, which Rayven has started. I’m sure you’ll enjoy that. Didn’t you say you and James used to dance?”
Eliza may not have said yes, but as I was leaving, she had not said no, to the idea of joining the dance class. Delighted, that I had managed to sidestep Eliza’s questioning, about my intended trip to Devil’s Comfort, I drove with a happy smile and hummed under my breath. The closer I got to the clubhouse, the sweatier my hands became, as my stomach began to churn.
“Mama?”
“Yes, Toby.”
“Who are all those people?”
With years of practice, I easily parked the car between two other vehicles, and opened the rear door to let Toby and Amelia out. From the parking lot, I studied the bikers and their old ladies. The ambiance of the party festivities, soaking into my bones.
“Their friends. Now come along and let’s join them.”
As I made my way over to Rayven, who was sitting beside Tabby, who was holding their son Kavan, I searched the area for Nick.
“He’s with Inferno and Dec, and will be along later.”
Was I really that obvious in my search for Nick? In an attempt to say it did not matter to me either way, I rolled my shoulders and sat beside Rayven. Toby and Amelia, bored by the adult company, soon ambled off to play with the other children on the bouncy castle, which the club has hired for today’s entertainment.
As dates went, this was not going very well. Nick was not around. Rayven and Tabby looked as though they were making up for lost time, and I had no idea where either Cassie or Baby Blu where.
Determined not to let this spoil my fun, I looked around, to see if I could find anyone else I recognized. When suddenly, a body dropped down next to me. Ivy, had her fiery red hair, piled on top of her head, her face surrounded by loose curls. Like me, she was wearing cut off denim shorts and a tank top, whilst mine was sage green hers’ was a silver gray. White ankle socks finished her assemble off, with a pair of sneakers.
“They’ve been like that since Tabby got back. I’m telling you Ellie, it’s a sickness and I’m glad I’m not afflicted by it.”
“Hey, you two are new. Want to join me on the dance floor?”
The Doors were playing, You can re-light my fire . The biker standing in front of me, was a dream boat. From his shaved head down to his biker boot covered feet. Slowly I let my gaze appraise the biker, resting momentarily on his junk, which was impressive if the bulge in his denims was to go by. By the time I turned in Ivy’s direction, she was already up and in the stranger’s arms, his hand held out expectantly. I was here to have fun, and without any hesitation I accepted the pro-offered hand, as the biker guided us on to the makeshift dance floor.
“Flynn Roberts. Take your hands of my woman’s ass.”
“Fudge you old dog. Don’t tell me this beautiful woman is with you. Fuck, honey, don’t you have any taste.”
Flynn was an easy going man and effortlessly, he let go of my body, as he stepped closer to Ivy, pulling her into his body. Their hips fitting snugly.
“I thought you’d deserted me.”
“No chance of that, Sugar.”
This is said as Nick, pulls me into his body. His arms loose around my hips, as one of his hand’s strokes the lower curve of my spine. That one touch, and I’m about to wet my pants. Nick’s touch has me stumbling over my own feet for a moment, and I hide my face in his chest. This gives me the perfect opportunity to smell the man. The light lingering smell of the cheroot mingling with his aftershave, and another tremble
