sigh.
“Nice?” Matthew asked, kneeling on the step so he was by her head.
“You have no idea.” She half moaned. “I can’t remember the last time I took a hot bath, let alone a bubble one.” She blew a handful of bubbles into the air. “I usually only have time for a quick shower before I face plant on the bed.” She smacked her hands together in a falling motion. “I’m usually just too tired to go through all this trouble.”
He nodded, going behind her. “Here, sit forward a bit.”
She pulled her knees up and leaned forward.
Reaching down into the tub with a loofa he let out a little chuckle. “That’s some serious ink you have there.” The tattoo was of a pale orange black and purple dragon wrapped protectively around a purple and black heart of what appeared to be cracked stone.
She turned her head to better see him. “That? Yeah, I’ve had it a long time now.”
He washed her back, the hot water running down over her shoulders, the smell of the lilies surrounding her. Then she felt both of his hands on her tense shoulders and she froze a second. The firmness of his hands startling. A memory of being held under by Donavan once bubbling to the surface.
“You okay?” Feeling her anxiety, he lessened, pulling back his hands.
“Yeah, sorry. I just, it’s okay.” She reached back searching for his hands.
He hesitated. There’s something going on there. But it’s too soon to pry.
“Really, go back to what you were doing, it felt really good.” She insisted, almost too eagerly.
He took some of the oil form the vial on the tub sill and rubbing his hands together began to rub her very tight shoulders. Making deep firm circles with his thumbs into her shoulder blades, his fingers kneading at the edges of her clavicle. Within minutes she was leaning into his hands and her head dropped as he worked up to her neck. Her little groans of approval made him smile as she eased and finally began to relax. Afraid she was going to pass out on him, he stopped. She leaned contentedly against the porcelain, her pale skin flushed pink from the heated water and his firm caresses. The makeup of the day was washed away and he noted that she had the faintest sprinkling of cinnamon freckles running across the bridge of her nose.
“Take all the time you need.” He whispered into her ear, kissing her on the neck smoothly. “I’ll be in the kitchen. There are towels just to your left and I put a robe there as well.” He stood up as she nodded with a sigh, sinking down into the bubbles.

When at last Donnella emerged she wandered into the kitchen to find Matthew setting up plates and taking food from one of the ovens. She didn’t say anything only took to watching him move. He’d taken off the Hugo Boss Dress shirt and slacks, now he was in a black ribbed tank top and checkered pajama pants, his feet bare as he slid a pan onto the counter with an oven mitt. He was engrossed in the details as he piled the dish high with food stuffs, moving around the large kitchen as though he’d always been in its confines. Catching her silhouette out of the corner of his eye, he looked at her with a dimple filled grin as she pushed her hair back from her face.
It was washed and hung down in loose dark red waves around her shoulders. The clip she usually used was clamped to the collar of the robe she wore, which was knotted loosely, letting the front peek open just enough on top to give him a moment’s pause in his tasks.
“Have a seat. I stopped for Thai, on the way here. Hope that’s cool. You’re driver said the place was good. Speaking of which what is with those guys? They don’t talk to me, won’t even tell me their names for fucks sake.”
“They are just like that. Try not to take it to heart. They are there for my protection, and to see to it that my life goes as smoothly as possible.” The Kitchen Island had two place settings in front of her as she sat, having to climb up into the stool, without
