family and youâre going to hear about it from yoursâ¦â She had all of that right so far, but self-preservation made him wary of where she was taking this. âUhhuh. Nonstop, until I head back.â âLetâs donât go back yet. I planned for the week off and youâre on leave. Letâs have a Grand Adventure.â He was shaking his head before she finished talking. âBad idea.â âWhy?â Because how the hell was he supposed to spend nearly a week with her and continue to resist temptation? Heâd jumped on every reasonable excuse to touch her earlier. âBecauseâ¦well, it just is.â âDid you have any plans for the week? If you were going to look up Diane Lassiter, she got married last year.â Where had Andi come up with the notion heâd look up this old Senior Prom date? âI know Diane got married last year. She friended me on Facebook. No, I donât have any particular plans.â He found he couldnât lie to her about it. âBut taking off on a Grand Adventure isnât a good idea.â And that was an under-statement. It had disaster written all over it. âYouâre right, itâs not a good idea.â Thank God she was going to be reasonable about this. âItâs a great idea. Youâre the one who said you might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb. Itâll be fun.â She gave him that beseeching look that had always worked when they were younger. âCâmon. Pretty please.â He wasnât going to be swayed by her. âNo.â âSuit yourself, but I am not going back and Iâm going to have my adventure. Iâve got a credit card.â She looked at him across the table with cool defiance. âJust drop me off at a rental-car company and Iâll take it from there.â Dammit to hell. âYouâre serious?â âOne hundred percent. You and Rion have been off doing what you wanted to do, where you wanted to do it.â He leveled a letâs-get-real look at her. âOkay, so maybe Afghanistan isnât your first choice of placesto be, but youâre not sitting around in Savannah being the dutiful daughter.â She leaned across the table and reached for him, placing her hand on top of his, her fingers warm and smooth against his. He quite literally couldnât think straight when she touched him, even just her hand on his. âYou know how my mother is. Sheâs going to be livid.â No shit. âSo I might as well have some fun before I go back since Iâve already sunk my ship, so to speak.â She moved her hand to rim her tea glass with her index finger. Colton knew that obstinate set of her chin. She was serious. She wasnât going backâ¦at least not today. She was hell bent for leather that sheâd have herâhowâd she put itâGrand Adventure. He couldnât stop her, he knew Andi well enough to know that, but he could make sure she didnât get into trouble and that she was okay. And there was only one way to do that. âOkay. Fine.â âFine what? I wasnât asking your permission to go.â âI didnât think you were.â He knew her better than that. She paused in toying with her glass. âThen whatâs fine?â He was so going to regret this. Hell, he already regretted it. âIâll go with you.â âFor real?â A huge smile blossomed on her face and lit her eyes. He was sunk, he was in way too deep because justthe idea that heâd been the one to light up her eyes like that made him feel ten feet tall, made him want to scale mountains and whatever else was necessary to get that response. âFor real.â She rubbed her hands together like a kid anticipating Christmas. âThis is going to be so much fun.â Thatâs not exactly how he would categorize it. This had trouble written all over it.
