floor-to-ceiling windows offered a view of the city’s skyline from a height of over thirty stories.
The place was modern and trendy, with a bit of New York style. As the highest building in Zurich, it really was in the clouds. Gianni secured a table by the windows with a great view of the city and the mountains in the distance. While perusing the outdoor sights, they enjoyed cocktails, and ate Jerusalem artichoke with smoked mackerel, one of the Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
In the evenings, they nestled into their room at the Hyatt. Gianni had reserved a corner suite with panoramic views of Zurich. More than once they imbibed in the luxury of soaking in the marble tub. And the luxurious bed was a haven for lovemaking, a warm, cozy respite from the cold outside.
Kyra arrived in time for the fashion event. She was busy the first few days with the fashion event coordinator, setting up for the show. There were pre-event parties for the models, sessions with makeup artists and hairstylists. But she still found time to have dinner with Gianni and Leah, and scour the Christmas markets.
It was a pleasure for Leah to have her friend at the fashion event. And the hours they spent shopping, having coffee, and savoring holiday treats were memorable. After the season’s shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris came a stunning display of fashion trends presented in Switzerland. Leah wished it was warmer out, so she could wear the strappy heels the models wore on the glittery catwalk.
The fashion industry wasn’t as big in Switzerland as in Italy or France. But it didn’t mean there wasn’t a lot of interest from fashionistas seeking the new pieces of the season. Leah found it refreshing and exciting to witness new things happening in the world of fashion. It was a popular event. Especially since attendees did not have to be invited guests, as they did during fashion weeks in other cities.
Any fan of the designer showings could buy tickets online and spend the evenings at the fashion event tent, discovering the new collections of local designers. The after-show activities weren’t limited to influencers, bloggers, or editors. The venue was open to anyone into fashion. It added to the excitement of Fashion Week.
Kyra looked stunning in each outfit she modeled. Leah liked a little black dress she wore presented by a Swiss designer. The announcer described it as “a wearable dress from a smart collection.” It was fetching, and just might end up in Leah’s closet sometime soon.
It was a fun event, and a great platform for new talent. Fashion days were also very social. Later that evening, local celebrities, fashion bloggers, and designers, all dressed to the nines, would gather in the VIP tent for a glass of something sparkling or a signature cocktail. Before the party, Kyra had persuaded Leah to let her do her makeup.
Although at shows makeup artists usually did her makeup for her, Kyra was talented with colors and creating different looks. She gave Leah a dramatic look, with darker eyebrows, deep red lips, and even a beauty mark, just like the old-time movie stars. When Kyra allowed her to look in the mirror, Leah expelled a breath.
“With snow piled up outside, and this exotic makeup, I feel like I’m starring in Doctor Zhivago ,” she said. “All I need is a wool cape.”
Kyra smiled. “I have one you can borrow.”
    “It was a joke.”
“I know.” Kyra giggled. “But it’s not a bad idea. And that was a great movie, by the way. I should rent it sometime, and see it again. It was so romantic.”
    “But sad,” Leah said.
“Yes, true.” Kyra put her hand over her heart, recalling a scene. “Remember when he takes her to that estate, and they are all alone? He started writing poetry for her, the ‘Lara’ poems.”
“I fell in love with Omar Sharif during that part,” Leah said. “Didn’t you?”
“Totally.” Kyra grinned. “I dreamed of being Julie Christie.”
    “So did I. That’s one
