settled this time, he held her tightly and kissed her head.   “Today we haven’t used a condom.   I’m clean.   I get tested with the Army. ”
    She turned so
she could look up at him.   “I’m on the
pill.   You’re the only man I’ve ever been
with without protection. ”
    He pulled her up
to brush his lips against hers.   “I’m
glad you’re on the pill.   I want children
with you, a little girl with your eyes, but first I’d like to be married and
for us to have some time just the two of us.   I don’t want to go back to condoms.   You feel too good without one. ”
    Bianca beamed up
at him.   “You want to have children with
me?”
    “Of course I do.   I want everything with you.   I love you.   You would be a great mum. ”
    Bianca sighed
and cuddled into him.   They lay there for
a moment or two before he asked, “What are we going to do about the Delta Ball?
    “Oh, don’t worry.   Greta owes me a favor.   She’ll take my place. ”
    He grinned. “I
can get two guys to replace me.   That
will make Mum extra happy. ” They both laughed and Caleb felt content.   He was thankful that he’d received letters
from his one and only. His Bianca.
    “Thank you , ” he said.
    “Why are you
thanking me?”
    “I just realized
that I never said thank you for sending me letters and keeping me alive because
that’s what they did . ” He kissed her lips, lingering
to whisper, “Thank you for your letters to a lonely soldier . ”
