Natasha lay down next to him, breathing heavily.
“ So I guess that means we will talk tomorrow,” Mitchell said as he closed his eyes. Natasha smiled and slowly raised her head to plant a kiss on his forehead. She felt guilty for using sex as an escape mechanism so that she didn’t have to talk about the proposal. She was not sure how long she could keep that going.
“ Yeah,” she said as she felt herself drifting to a deep sleep.
Chapter 6
Mitchell looked at his wrist watched and then took a sip of his cappuccino. He was supposed to be meeting his best friend Leo Hayes for the first time in eight months. Leo and Mitchell were old friends all the way from their high school days. As they grew together, they realized that they had more than just the same taste in girls. Their career choices were also strangely similar. They both had a liking for management…crisis management was where they really clicked.
However after graduating from college, Leo had been poached by a pharmaceutical company and after that they rarely got any time to just sit and hang out. Getting some time, any time even half an hour for a quick beer had literally become wishful thinking. When he wasn’t traveling the world trying to fix everything that had gone wrong with a drug launch he was busy sourcing for all the foreign clients he could stomach. When he was free, Mitchell was on some business meeting in Chicago, or Washington….just say out of reach. Mitchell smiled as he looked at his watch again. He could not wait to just catch up on all of Leo’s foreign conquests.
“Buddy!” he heard an excited voice behind him. He smiled as he stood up and turned around to look at Leo.
“ Dude, what the hell are they feeding you in…where were you this time round anyway?” Mitchell asked as the two embraced.
“ Depends on when you are asking about,” Leo said when they pulled apart. “But this, is all Dubai, dude,” he said rubbing his huge tummy. Mitchell smiled as he sat down.
“ I took the liberty of ordering some cappuccino for you,” Mitchell said as he signaled the waitress to come to their table.
“ Really? You still do that?” Leo asked. Mitchell looked at him as he took a sip from his own cup.
“ Why? What’s wrong with that? Did you give up caffeine?” he asked looking at him.
“ Hell no…actually never!” Leo said laughing just as the waitress brought his coffee to the table. “So, Schmidt, what’s new?” he asked as he slowly played with his cup handle.
“ Nothing much. Just the usual suspects,” Mitchell said with a smile.
“ Nothing much? Dude you are at the top of the Nolan Schmidt financial food chain and you tell me that there’s nothing much going on?” Leo said laughing. “Like really man…” he said as his voice trailed off.
“ I knew that would come up,” Mitchell said with a smile. “I know I said there was no way in hell I would ever work for my family’s company,” he said looking at Leo. “Things change you know,” he added as he ran his fingers through his thick wavy hair.
“ They sure do,” Leo said smiling. “I mean back when I knew you, you were just some geeky guy with bad hair and glasses…,” “…hey, feelings,” Mitchell said clutching his breast pocket dramatically. Leo smiled.
“ You know I’m right man. Now you are this …this….sex god gracing the cover of Forbes sexiest men under 40,” Leo struggled to say without sounding negative.
“ Yeah, there is that,” Mitchell said looking down. “There is a perfectly good explanation for that,” he said holding his hands up in his defense.
“ There has to be. I’m sure Lisa wouldn’t have taken it lightly having you in all your naked glory on the cover of a magazine,” Leo said. Mitchell frowned.
“ You do know we got divorced right?” he asked looking at him. Leo looked back at him surprised.
“ I thought that was just one of those many separations the two of you were always going through,” Leo
