the vampire blurred onto his features.
“Gregori,” she said tenderly and cradled his cheek, no fear within her.
But she should fear, he thought as he pulled away the other shoulder of her dress, baring her upper body. She should be very afraid because he wasn’t sure that this time he would be able to hold back.
He shuddered as the need for blood and sex snaked together through his body. The pain in his mouth warned his fangs were revealing themselves, but Sonja bent and brushed her lips against his.
Did she know the demon might not stop this time? he thought, but he was powerless as she dropped her hands and shifted back just enough to free his erection. When she moved back over him, the wet heat of her undid the last vestiges of his control.
He pulled aside the thin strip of silk separating them and plunged upward just as she drove down. Their combined gasps filled the air along with the smell of their passion.
He set his mouth on her breasts, his fangs scraping her tender skin, leaving bright pink streaks across her fairness, but she didn’t protest. If anything, she urged him on with the sharp movements of her hips, driving them both ever closer to release.
He was lost in the feel of her, all womanly softness and allure. But as the faint smell of blood teased his nostrils, he pulled back and noticed the tiniest drops along the scratches on her creamy skin. Regret filled him at marring her and he licked his way across the scratches. His vampire saliva would heal all evidence of the wounds.
But as he did so, those tiniest sips of her blood shattered what little control remained.
He reared forward and sank his teeth into her throat. Hot, lush blood gushed into his mouth and fangs. Unlike before, his feeding this time was rough and almost violent, his need was so great. He kept on sucking and drawing her life force into him, too lost in her to stop.
Sunny pushed against him, protesting as she sensed the difference in this bite. She tried to break free, but he held fast and swept his arm down around her hips to keep her near.
With another long pull, her defiance weakened as the passion of the vampire’s bite insinuated itself into her body. Instead of pushing him away, her arms twined around his shoulders to hold him close, to caress him as he continued to feed. Her hips took up their seductive motion once more, riding him. Fulfilling his other hunger as he took her blood again and again until he was nearly drunk on the rush of life singing through his veins.
But even as he found himself restored by her vitality and passion, her body softened in his arms.
He yanked away, fangs and mouth wet with her blood. He met her slightly unfocused gaze, fearing he had taken too much.
“Why?” was all she said as her eyes slipped closed and her body melted against his.
Pained panic roared through him. Gently he laid her on the bench seat, leaned forward and licked at her throat to seal the wound. After he did so, he took her pulse, only slightly relieved by the thready beat. He couldn’t fail to notice the chill on her skin and its paleness.
She was in shock, and he had to care for her.
Engaging the intercom, he barked at the driver, “Take us home.” Then he reached into his pocket for his cell phone and dialed Vanesa. When she answered, he said, “I need you to prep an IV.”
“You didn’t turn her, did you?” his housekeeper accused.
No, he hadn’t, but a little more feeding and he would have had no choice but to turn her to keep her alive.
“I didn’t, but she’s in shock. I need to get some fluids into her.” He snapped the phone shut before Vanesa could say another word, not needing her censure. God knew he had enough of his own guilt and disgust festering inside of him at that moment.
Jerking off his sport coat, he wrapped Sonja into the jacket and drew it tight around her to build some warmth. After rearranging his clothing, he picked her up in his arms and rocked her the way one might a
