she wasn't prepared for, yet
at the same time she kind of was. Or perhaps she was confusing
prepared with wanting? Because the want was definitely there, which
was totally confusing the heck out of her.
A feeling she was well acquainted with.
Then his hand came up and tilted her chin
until his mouth was a breath away from hers. Close enough to feel
the heat on her own lips, but too far away to extinguish the sudden
aching in her chest. And he didn't kiss her. His thumb swiped
across her jaw line, sending shock wave of electricity all the way
down to her toes.
"You had an ink smudge," he said in a husky
voice.
She couldn't tear her eyes away from his. But
she had to in order to keep her head on straight and mind in the
game. That meant she needed to hightail it away from Devlin Motors
to the comfort of her own home. Otherwise she'd find herself in the
exact same position she had nine years ago.
"I have to go," she blurted out. Without
saying another word, she spun on her heel and practically fled the
scene of the almost-crime.
The cool outside air felt like a refreshing
blast on her heated face. Her heart had yet to slow down to normal,
but she'd worry about that later. For the time being, she needed to
focus on putting one foot in front of the other. And as many miles
in between her and R.J. as she possibly could.
What happened to the days of innocent
teasing? When had he gone from making wisecracks to tying to scorch
her clothes off? The teasing she could handle. The wisecracks could
always put a smile on her face and send her into a combative mood.
This sensual side that held all kinds of secrets she'd yet to
unlock? That made her want to run for the hills. Which she was
currently doing as she beat ground toward her car.
R.J. hadn't shown this side of him in a long
time. Too long, that she'd almost forgotten how hard it was to
resist him. She needed to stay away from him. If she valued her
mental health, which she certainly did, she'd conduct all further
business with him over the phone.

He knew damn well that touching her would be
a mistake. But he'd been unable to help himself and now he wanted
to kick his own ass for ignoring his common sense. Lately his
iron-clad resolve had slipped, which he couldn't afford. Rebecca
was hard enough to resist. If he went around ignoring his own
rules, he'd be up shit creek.
The desk between them hadn't been big enough,
yet it had been too much. Her skin was flawless and so damn creamy.
It always had been, and he'd needed just one sample to remind
himself. And he'd been right. Her skin was just as smooth and
satiny as it had been nine years ago.
Good thing she'd booked. If she'd stayed, he
would have kissed her. Those full, sexy lips had looked too good
for him to ignore. The flush that had colored her cheeks had been
amusing and a turn on all at once. Good to know he could still get
a reaction out of her. Gave him a healthy amount of male
satisfaction.
He remained in his office for several minutes
after she'd hightailed it. Mostly to allow time for his hard-on to
deflate. If he went to the shop with his pants tented, Danielle
would likely get the wrong idea and act on it. In fact, he knew she
would, and that was the last thing R.J. wanted. All he had to do
was enter the room, and Danielle practically got herself in a
tizzy. Not that he was trying to toot his own horn. He couldn't
help how the woman felt about him. He had to constantly remind her
of their professional relationship, and it was becoming wearisome.
If she wasn't so good at her job, he would have let her go and
found himself a man to run the place. Not that he didn't trust a
woman to do a good job. He just wouldn't trust another female not
to hit on him. A man wouldn't present the problem of sexual
undertones.
When the throbbing in his pants finally
subsided, he left his office and went into the front reception
area. There were still a few things he needed to go over with
Danielle. Before Rebecca
