Toraâs health. The first morning light was beginning to trickle through the trees.
âHow could we have thought he was a poacher?â Zoe whispered to Ben as the little cub nuzzled her chin. âHe loves animals.â
âWe shouldnât have jumped to conclusions so quickly,â Ben agreed. âPeople arenât always how they seem. Catur seemed so nice when we first met him.â
âShould we let Wicaksono know that we tagged him?â said Zoe.
âWe canât,â said Ben. âThen weâd have to tell him all about Wild. They seem to believe weâre just tourists who stumbled across this horrible plot. It shouldnât do him any harm.â
Back at the village, the wooden cage was winched on to the back of the sanctuaryâs truck. The cubs were put into a smaller box. Zoe and Ben stroked Toraâs magnificent fur through the bars as she slept.
âGoodbye,â said Zoe. âYouâre going to a lovely new home where you and your children can be safe.â
Barbara came over to join them. âSheâll need a name. Any ideas?â
They pretended to think. âHow about Tora?â suggested Ben.
âTora it is. And the cubs? Theyâre a boy and girl.â
Zoe opened her mouth.
âDonât you dare suggest Fluffy and Wuffy!â warned Ben with a grin.
âWhat are your names?â asked Barbara. âWeâll name them after you.â
âBen and Zoe,â they chorused.
âPerfect!â said Barbara.
âWhat happens next?â asked Ben.
âOur vet will do an examination and tag them, like you do dogs and cats,â said Barbara. âThen theyâll be set free in the reserve. Hopefully the mother will establish her territory and live a long and happy life. Thereâs a male there already so she may have more cubs in time. Which is what we need if weâre going to save the Sumatran tigers.â
She turned, paid the villagers and got into the cab of the truck. Then she leant out of the window, waving a notepad at Ben and Zoe.
âStick your email address on here,â she called. âIâll send you an update.â
âAnd what about the poachers?â asked Zoe as she wrote. âThere was Catur and two others, and theyâre still free.â
âThat shop over there is where Caturâs selling animal parts,â added Ben.
Barbara smiled. âIâll tell the police. Those villains will soon know what itâs like to be hunted!â
With a throaty roar, the truck set off. Ben and Zoe watched until it had bumped out of sight in the early morning sunshine. Tora and her cubs were on their way to a safe new home.
âI hope they donât find our little tracking device when they examine Tora,â said Ben, as they walked slowly through the market place.
âTheyâll never be able to work out where it came from.â Zoe grinned. âYou know whatâs really good?â
âFish and chips,â said Ben.
âNo,â said Zoe, giving him a friendly shove. âThat collector will have to do without her family of stuffed tigers. I wonder if Erikaâs got any info on her.â
âHope sheâs been caught,â said Ben through gritted teeth.
Zoe nodded. âThat would be perfect. Course, we wonât be able to put any of this on our website.â
âIt would make a great blog,â agreed Ben. âIt is a pity weâve got to keep it all secret.â
Zoe gave a huge yawn. âI need some sleep.â
âAnd I need food!â added Ben. âI wasnât joking about the fish and chips.â He pulled out his BUG. âIâve got the hang of this now. We must let Uncle Stephen know about Tora.â He pressed the hot key for Wild HQ.
âHello, Ben.â Uncle Stephenâs voice came through loud and clear. âIs everything all right?â he asked. âHas our friend gone to her new
