to stare, but he couldn’t keep from it. The filmy black material hid little of her from view. If anything, the fabric made the skin beneath look even creamier. More touchable…
The production assistant regained his voice first. “Erica, you look great,” he said.
“Thanks.” She smoothed the outfit over her hips. “I was feeling downright grungy in those old T-shirts and shorts.”
“You don’t look grungy now.” Mason grinned.
Adam scowled at the man. Did he realize he was practically drooling?
“Thanks.” She gave Mason her warmest smile. “I wanted to get into the whole spirit of this bed-in stunt. Get people talking, and contributing more money.”
“You looked fine the way you were.” Adam didn’t mean to bark the words, but the control he’d spent all morning reclaiming was evaporating.
She moved a little closer, and lowered her voice so that he had to lean down to hear her. “Carl said to keep things sexy. What’s sexier than black lingerie?”
Nothing, he thought, which immediately led to the image of her wearing just that. Nothing. Get a grip, he silently commanded. He cleared his throat. “He also said not to get too racy.”
She looked down at the body-skimming chiffon. “This isn’t too racy. People wear fewer clothes at the beach.”
    “We’re not at the beach.”
“No, we’re in bed. And bed’s the perfect place to wear lingerie, don’t you think?”
No, he didn’t think. He couldn’t think. At least not rationally. They were in bed. Beds were for sleep and sex.
And he definitely wasn’t feeling the least bit sleepy.

E RICA HAD COUNTED on attracting Adam’s attention, maybe even making him see her in a different light. On that score, her new, more revealing outfit was definitely doing the trick. Whenever she was occupied with something else—doing an interview for the station Web site, signing autographs for people who stopped by with donations, or posing for pictures with fans—she was aware of him watching her.
Of course, as soon as she looked his way, he averted his eyes. And how funny was it that the more skin she revealed, the less he showed? He’d taken to wearing a bathrobe over his T-shirt and pajama pants, claiming he was getting a chill. As if he was fooling anyone. She knew now that he wanted her, and that knowledge was powerful.
Almost as powerful as the outfit’s effect on her . The skimpy, slinky costume made her feel like a sex goddess. Every man who passed by her did a double-take. The thought that she could make them all hot made her feel as if she was on fire.
When everyone left for the day and at last she and Adam were alone, she was sure they’d have a chance to do something about the definite heat between them. Maybe they could cover the security lights, or hide out in the bathroom. Or something…
As soon as the front door to the showroom was locked and the lights dimmed, Adam got out of bed.
“Where are you going?” She leaned toward him, giving him a good view of cleavage. “Come back to bed.”
He shook his head, and sat in one of the chairs that had been pulled up to a low table near the bed. “We need to talk, and I can’t do it in bed with you. Come sit down.”
Reluctantly she moved over to the chair beside him. “What did you want to talk about?” The conversation she wanted to have with him didn’t require words.
He picked up a pen and jiggled it in his hand, then set it back down. “You’re doing a great job,” he said.
    “Thanks. I’m having fun.”
“That’s what concerns me a little. What I wanted to discuss with you.”
His words confused her. “You don’t think the job should be fun?”
“It can be fun, but…” For the first time all day, he looked at her directly. “But it’s serious work, too. If you don’t take it seriously, you can make mistakes. Big ones.”
She sat up straighter, not hiding her annoyance. “I take the job seriously.”
    “You haven’t acted like it
