Kenny doubled over with a howl. I calmly walked over and got the nanny cam from its hiding place. I walked to the front of the store and got my handbag. Outside and walking toward my car, I got a case the willies. I checked over my shoulder just in case Kenny was coming after me with a butcher knife.

I was in the clear, sailing home in the rented Ford, with evidence enough to get Kenny canned, I hoped.

Back at home, I checked my texts. One from Stevie! It read, “Made it. We have a Brownstone in Park Slope. Can’t wait till you’re here.” I didn’t really know what a Brownstone or Park Slope was, but I held my phone to my chest in splendor. I got my phone out to read the text from Stevie again. It was Almost noon in New York. I text him back. “Thinking of you.”

In the early morning light, I plugged in the nanny cam to my old desktop computer. The footage was good enough, but I couldn’t believe how fat I looked. When Kenny reaches out and cups my breast it’s not really visible, but you can see that he’s touching me. Also, the audio was crystal clear. He calls his uncle an old bastard and says that he’s been ripping him off for years.

I uploaded it to YouTube and sent the link to Ben.

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Stevie, “I’ll pick you up at the airport.” I text him back a link to the video.

A few minutes later my phone rang. “Hey, Love,” Stevie said.

“Stevie!” I held my breath. Was he going to ask me not to come? Did he see how fat I look in the YouTube video?

    “You’re amazing,” he said.

    “What?”

    “The video.”

    “Oh, yeah,” I said.

“You caught him in the act,” Stevie said. “Fantastic! That should put a stop to his horror show for a while.”

    “Right?” I said.

“Way to go, Champ,” he cheered me. I was thrilled. “I bet that Ben guy will freak out when he sees it,” he added.

“I don’t think Ben is going to sit still for this one,” I said, “He’s a sexist and all, but that bit about Kenny ripping him off is gold.”

“Solid gold,” Stevie laughed. “I love talking to you.”

“So, a brownstone in Park Slope ?” I asked.

A brownstone. Yeah, it’s like a townhome. There are a bunch of them in New York City. They’re made out of these large brown stones. This one is three stories, it has 5 bedrooms, and we’ve got it all to ourselves while we’re recording.”

“Sweet,” I said. I was beside myself.

“And Park Slope is an area in Brooklyn right by Prospect Park. That’s like Central Park, but for Brooklyn.”

    “Oh, cool,” I said.

“Listen, we’re going out the door, April,” He said. I just had to call you about that video. You are a gem. See you tomorrow night.”

And he was gone. So, a big stone building in Brooklyn, New York. How was this happening to me?

I had barely got over talking to Stevie when my phone rang again. It was Ben.

“Please take that video of the internet,” he said.

“Ben,” I began, “I’ve been telling you for weeks that Kenny is an inappropriate creep, and you refused to do anything about it.”

“I know, I know, I was wrong. I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll be firing him as soon as I can reach him.”

“Listen carefully, Ben. If I hear that Kenny is back working at your store again, I will post this video back up on YouTube with the title, Ben’s Food Place, Placerville, CA. Your store will become synonymous with this video.”

“I’d be surprised if I ever speak to Kenny again,” Ben said. He’ll never work for me again.”

“OK, Ben. I’m taking the video down now,” I told him.

“April, you still have a job here if you want it. I’m really sorry. Now I see what you’ve been going through.”

“I’ll have to think about it, Ben, but thanks. I’ll let you know in a couple of weeks.”
