could feel a panic attack on its way. I sank down on the floor behind the bar, and then heard someone jump over the bar and sit next to me. I screamed and then noticed it was Rick. He sat down and put his arm around me; I instantly felt better, safer.
“ESME!” I heard Jackson call my name out, he sounded worried.
“Down here, mate.” I heard Rick say, but still he didn’t let me go which I was thankful for.
I heard Jax jump up over the bar, then he, too, sat down next to me, pulled me out of Rick’s arms and into his.
“It's ok, Es, they’re gone now. You’re safe, I’ve got you.” Jackson whispered in my ear.
I felt my body relax into him and realised this was what I needed. I needed Jackson, he made me feel safe. I just knew that he would never be mine.
Chapter 12
Jackson
It was the day after Esme’s first shift back after her scare the other night. She had asked Paul, the bar manager, for a few day-time shifts until she got her confidence back. I knew it would be a quiet shift for her today, so I thought I’d go and keep her company. Cindy was out shopping and Flix were having a rare day off from rehearsing, so I didn’t have anywhere to be.
I made my way to The Archer; we were only at the hotel down the road so it didn’t take long to get there. I was right, as I walked in I noticed that the place was practically empty, there were a couple of guys in suits at a far table, no doubt having a business meeting. I looked up and my breath caught in my throat as I saw that Esme was perched on a stool behind the bar, her hair tied up in a messy bun on the top of her head. She had glasses on today and she looked like she was concentrating on something. She looked beautiful. As I was walking towards her she looked up at me, as if she could feel my presence.
As I got closer, I noticed that she tried to hide what she was working on, but I managed to grab it quickly and have a look at it. She was writing a song, I didn’t know she could write music.
“Hi, what’s this?” I asked Esme, raising the notebook in my hand.
“It's nothing, give it back, please?” She said as she tried reaching up to get it.
I then held it up higher and she kept trying to grab it but she couldn’t. In the end, she just slumped back onto her stool, pouted and asked nicely for me to hand it over. She looked very cute pouting and I just wanted to grab that bottom lip in between my teeth and bite it. God, what was happening to me? I didn’t think like this, I had Cindy, I loved Cindy. Maybe this was just because things had been a bit strained between us recently and I liked the attention I was getting from Esme.
“Seriously, Es, what is this?” I asked her.
“I like to write music... It’s not very good. All I have is the words, no music.” She said, looking a little shy.
I started reading the words out loud;
Holding you in my dreams
I wish it was reality
Kissing you in my dreams
I need you to be with me
“This is good, I’ve been working on some new music, but got no words to go with it, this would fit so well.” I was really excited about this, about the potential of Esme’s writing, and doing a song together.
“Oh, well you can have it, use it if you like.” She offered me.
I shook my head at her. “No, let’s work on this together, this could be something good, what do you think?”
“Really?” She asked, she sounded surprised, I then got her mega watt smile and I melted just a little bit.
“Yep, let me run back to the hotel, grab my guitar and music, maybe we can throw a few words around? While it’s still quiet?” I shouted back to her as I was running out the door, I looked back to make sure she was ok with this and she was smiling and giggling. Oh, how I loved that sound and sight.
I literally ran the whole way to the hotel to grab my stuff, praying that Cindy wouldn’t be there. Otherwise, this would not be happening with Esme. I got to the hotel and climbed into the lift, to the
