more perfect way to start a new semester. And especially such a tough one.
For the first time, Amy was taking the full course load allowed for a freshmen. Eighteen hours was intrepid but she felt certain she could manage. After all, the courses didn't seem much harder than those she'd had in high school. French, for example, gave her no problems and she often breezed through tests and quizzes without so much as a glance at her textbook. Of course, Madame Beaumont chastised her for being unable to spell some of the words right to which Amy's response was always 'I can't spell them in English, why do you expect I can spell them in French?' It gave the woman a laugh and she generally let up after that. But the only bad part about so many hours, plus her speech team duties, was that it meant less time spent wrapped up with Jen.
First love felt amazing, like it would last forever. Whenever she thought about her girlfriend it was like soda bubbled fizzing in her stomach. Amy never felt like this about anyone before. It was flying, falling and laughing all at once and sometimes she just wanted to scream because if she didn't do something she'd explode. That was generally about the time they snuck off between classes to make out in the back of the library shelves where no one ever went.
And so the first two months of the new semester passed uneventfully. Jen breezed through her classes, and their social lives, as though nothing had truly changed. And it didn't seem to Amy that anything could happen to bring them down.
Until one day, mid-day through March, when she walked back into their room and saw Jen sitting on her bed, phone in hand, just staring at the wall. And it wasn't so much the odd behavior that stopped the girl in her tracks as the expression of utter devastation there.
"Jen? Jen are you alright, what happened?" she demanded, hurrying to the girl and laying her hands gently on her shoulder. But Jen didn't respond, just kept staring. Eventually a fine tremor ran through her and she let out a very shaky breath.
"My parents kicked me out," Jen finally replied, voice eerily even.
Amy stiffened in surprise. "Kicked you out? Why?"
"I..." she hesitated. "I couldn't keep it a secret Amy. I'm tired of going home to them, pretending that I'm something I'm not. Tired of being matched up with neighbor boys I couldn't care less about and dealing with hints about future grand-babies. I thought... I thought doing it over the phone would be easier but..."
"Oh baby, I am so sorry," Amy whispered, pulling Jen to her. The girl clutched to her like a drowning man and let her body shake with the grief she felt though no tears actually fell. Jen wasn't a crier even at the worst of times. So she did what she could to comfort the blonde, to give her some comfort. But she wasn't actually sure it was helping. "Look, it's okay... well... not okay but.... but I can help. You're on a scholarship right? So you can afford to keep going to school and... and you can stay with my Mom and me. She'll love you. We'll make this work."
"Amy?" she said suddenly, voice cracking. " Will... will you please just... just love me? I need to feel... I need..."
Amy didn't need telling twice. Though she had misgivings about sex when her girlfriend was so emotionally compromised she was also unwilling to deny her whatever she thought would help. So she decided to make love to her as tenderly and as affectionately as she possibly could.
Laying Jen back against the pillows, she took time to run her fingers through those wild locks and press kissed to her lips, her eyes, her cheek, her neck... she planned on worshiping this woman. Each piece of clothing was removed with care with more kisses peppering every inch of exposed skin. Occasionally sobbing shudders wracked her girlfriends form, causing her to stop and draw her lips into a gentle kiss. But there was very little response to that. Very little of the passion Amy had come to associate with her fiery
