job she loved
and she was good at it. She adored all her nieces and nephews and had enjoyed
rebuilding her friendship with her sister. And Jared ignited feelings in her
that she had thought burned out long ago. Rita was finally on the path she
wanted and she was very happy with the direction she had taken. As she walked
past Jared’s truck, she got an idea. Reaching into her bag, she scribbled a
note and left it on his windshield. Smiling to herself, she headed back to her
office hoping to get some work done.

Late
that day, as Jared climbed into his truck, he saw the note on his windshield.
7 PM. Come for dinner, stay for
breakfast
Smiling,
he retrieved the note from his window.
Chapter 7
As
Rita nervously checked herself in the mirror, she chided herself about her
behavior. It wasn’t like they hadn’t spent any time together, but tonight would
be different. Tonight, he was coming to her place. Her sister, Tessa, and
family were on vacation and wouldn’t be back for more than a week. Rita had the
place to herself and she was looking forward to turning the tables on Jared.
While this wasn’t technically her place, she still lived here and well,
turnabout was fair play. Her house. Her rules. Her nervousness at his impending
arrival had her running around the house tidying things up. Not that it was
necessary, as her sister always kept a clean house. Pride of ownership, Tessa
would say, but Rita couldn’t resist some last minute straightening. Not that it
mattered; she wasn’t planning on venturing beyond her private domain. At 6:55,
Rita heard the door slam on a truck. Rushing to the window, she saw Jared walk
around the back of his truck as he headed toward the house. Stopping for another
quick look in the mirror, Rita took a deep breath to calm her nerves before heading
out the door.
Rita
and Casey met Jared on the driveway as he was walking toward the house. Smiling
brightly, she gave him a chaste kiss. As Jared leaned in to deepen the kiss,
she stepped back and took his hand. “Let’s go inside, shall we?” As Jared
followed her, Rita looked over her shoulder to smile sweetly at him. “Oh, by
the way, tonight, it’s my house, my rules.” As Jared stopped, Rita turned to
look at him, “Is something wrong?”
“That’s
not how I do things, Jared growled.”
As
Rita dropped his hand, she stepped back. “What’s the matter? Don’t think you
can take it? I promise not to do anything you can’t handle.”
“You
know what I mean.”
“I
do. But tonight, I’m in charge. Mostly.” At her mischievous look, Jared
relaxed. Holding up three fingers in the Girl Scout promise, “Jared, I promise
not to do anything that will make you uncomfortable. AND, you can stop me at
any time.”
“Any
time?”
“Yesssss,
now come on. Please. It isn’t often that I get the house to myself. Let’s go.”
As
Jared followed her up the stairs to the guesthouse, he battled with his inner
turmoil. He hated not being in charge. Growing up in a family with a
domineering father and then his time in the Navy, Jared hated following orders.
He would much rather give them. And sex was no exception. In fact, he needed to
be in charge even more in the bedroom. Married twice and numerous girl friends
over the years, he was no stranger to relationships, but because of the nature
of his job, he was never able to talk about what was going on, which translated
over not talking about his feelings. The women in his life accused him of being
intentionally distant and maybe that was the case. Rita managed to get under
his skin in ways no other woman had and he wanted this relationship to work. He
enjoyed watching her reactions to things and he could tell she was determined.
For her, he was willing to try. Maybe.
As
they stepped out onto the second floor, Jared took a quick look around. Stark
furnishings with minimal décor spoke of someone visiting, not a home. He
