Kasadya.
“You ready to have your ass handed to you?”
Raven announced when she reached Kasadya.
She started with a kick to Kasadya’s torso,
but Kas caught her foot mid-kick and stopped her momentum. Raven’s
smile dropped.
“My turn,” was the only warning Raven got
before Kasadya’s fist ended up in her jaw.
She flew back and landed on the ground.
Shaking her head, she got back up again. She stormed forward, ready
to punch Kas.
Oh, this is not going to end well. I
closed my eyes, dreading the next seconds.
“That’s cheating!” Raven yelled, so I had to
peak.
“That’s using your abilities to survive.” Kas
smiled at her.
Raven jumped up and stormed forward again,
her eyes blazing.
“Kas, just don’t hurt her too badly,” Ben
called, trying to save Raven.
Kas deflected the blow coming at her. And
with a few quick moves, Raven was flying like a swan, a soon dead
one, but still a swan. She flew up again, but this time she chose
to shift to her Hellhound form. Her eyes flickered briefly between
red and yellow.
Oh not good, really not good. I looked
at Max, who was watching the show, ready to step in and save Raven.
It must be hard for the hellhounds to lose their cool so quickly.
Kas didn’t shift to hellhound. Instead she gracefully blocked all
of Raven’s punches.
“Kasadya, we don’t have all day,” Chax said
from our left. I actually jumped, not even noticing that he was
there at all.
Kas nodded and punched Raven, who ended up
unconscious on the ground. I closed my eyes, trying to picture
something else. Hell, Kasadya had a mean punch. Raven lost
her control on her hellhound form and shifted back to normal, her
body splayed out on the ground.
“Somebody wake the kid. We have work to do,”
Kas stated and walked away.
I didn’t wait for another second. I ran to
Raven, and Ben was right next to me. Ouch, she was going to have a
killer shiner. I looked up and found Kasadya storming back to us.
Dropping Raven like a bag, I made sure I was far away from both of
them. Just before Kas reached her, I could see reason setting
in.
“You have so much to learn, Raven. Stop
trying to fight everyone you see and try to learn from them. I can
help you. We all can help you,” Kas said as she indicated all of
us.
“There is a battle coming, and it’s going to
be brutal. If you are not ready, you won’t last long,” Kas tried to
explain and held her hand out for Raven to grab. Kasadya’s words
sunk in, and I looked at Max again. His eyes were on Kasadya and he
was smiling again. I felt really crappy at that moment, a little
too crappy for my liking. Why does he keep looking at Kas? Does
he still love her? Probably, they were dating before …. before
us. That stupid painful stab was in my heart again.
“Okay,” Raven whispered, trying to get up on
her feet without any luck. “I'll stop being cocky.”
Kas helped Raven up and turned to look at
Max. They smiled at each other and I went from crappy to suicidal
in a millisecond.
“We need to find those demon princes and
speed things up. Any suggestions?” she asked him. Furious, I kept
my eyes on the two of them.
“I know, but our options are limited,” Max
replied.
I looked at Kas and all I could see was that
slutty demon princess from the other night. She was mated to Chax,
but she was still flirting with Max. That was just - hold on. Light
bulb moment!
“Um, Kas, what about the princess?” I
suggested.
Kasadya turned around and looked at me,
confused.
    “What do you mean?”
I looked around, trying to make sure no one
noticed my insanely jealous moment. “You know, she tried to warn us
about Kali. And she said that she knew what was happening to you,
and that you could help each other.” I whispered the last part,
ashamed that I was acting like this. They were just friends, and I
need to get over that. I looked at Max and found him frowning at
me, but he was also really mad for some reason.
“Let’s tell Chax, and we can
