Angela and Eliza Fallon are the same person?â Henry asked.
âYes,â Rob said. âWhen I met her yesterday, I was pretty sure, but I needed some evidence. I tried to follow her, but it was hard with this ankle.â Rob looked down at his leg and winced.
âWhere did you see her go?â Benny asked.
âWhen she left the bunkhouse, she went into the woods,â Rob said. âShe didnât stay long before she headed quickly to her canoe. When I arrived at the lake, she had alreadytaken off. I followed her a bit along the shore then came back to these woods to see if I could find any clues.â
âDid you find anything?â Violet asked softly.
âWell, no. It was dark by then and all I had was my flashlight. Youâre the ones who found something.â Rob looked very proud of the Aldens.
âDid you see her take our equipment?â Henry asked.
âNo, I didnât.â Rob shook his head. âSo you see, I still have no solid proof against her.â
âThatâs too bad.â Benny looked disappointed.
âHow did you know to look for her here?â Aunt Jane asked.
âMr. Withington told me Angela loved to go canoeing in this part of the country,â Rob explained. âShe particularly liked to go by the old abandoned house on Timberwolf Lake.â
âThatâs the house we saw on our first night of the trip,â Jessie exclaimed.
âSo, did Mr. Withington suspect Angelaâor Eliza?â Violet asked.
âWell, of all his employees, he finally admitted she was one of the most suspicious. I decided to take a trip up here on a hunch I might find something. Itâs been almost a year since the coin collection was stolen,â Rob said.
âDo you suspect any of the other new employees?â Jessica wondered.
âWell, the two new gardeners are still working for Mr. Withington and seem very honest. The chauffeur, however, suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago.â
âWhat did this chauffeur look like?â Jessie asked.
âHe was a big man with blond hair and a loud voice.â
âHey, wait, that sounds like Matt,â Benny shouted.
âThatâs just what I was thinking.â Aunt Jane nodded at Benny.
Jessie, Aunt Jane, and Benny told Rob about meeting Matt and Bill in the storm. They also told him about Lorenzo Espinosa.
Rob listened closely. âWe always thought more than one person might be involved in stealing that collection. I wonderâ¦â His voice trailed off.
âWhat do you think we should do now?â Henry asked.
âWe should try to get these coins safely to the nearest townâWhite Pine, I believe,â Rob answered.
âThatâs where weâre meeting Grandfather,â Benny said.
âGood,â Rob nodded. âWe shouldnât talk to anyone before we get the coins safely into the hands of the police.â
When Aunt Jane and the Aldens arrived at the bunkhouse with the coins, they saw smoke coming from the chimney.
âLook, there are some other campers here.â Violet sounded worried.
âJessie and I will take the coins and hide them,â Rob said. âWe donât want to take any chances.â
Henry slowly opened the door.
âWell, hello again!â a loud voice greeted them. Matt and Bill were seated on the couch in front of the fireplace. Both of them were covered with red blisters.
âI see you found your family.â Bill nodded toward Violet and Henry.
âYou must have been bitten by lots of mosquitoes,â Benny observed.
âWe camped in some poison ivy,â Matt said ruefully as he scratched his arm.
âSay, you wouldnât happen to have any lotion we could put on it?â Bill asked.
âNo.â Aunt Jane shook her head. âWe didnât bring any.â
âDidnât you know to avoid it?â Benny asked.
âYes, but ⦠uhââ Bill started.
