night.
She gave no outward indication either, not sparing me a glance. That was smart, for the best, but I didn’t like it. I wanted her attention, her affection, and as I watched her walk across the shining marble floor and into the elevator, I couldn’t wait until I had it again.

I heard someone walking toward the office, and after a brief tap at the door frame, Susan entered, smile sprayed on her face, envelope in her hand.
“I have those reports and graphs you asked for,” she said.
“Thank you,” I replied shortly, not wanting to prolong this interaction.
Susan, however, seemed to take the words as an invitation, and after dropping the files on the desk, she lingered.
    “You’re not sitting,” she said.
    “I prefer to stand.”
She eyed me, leering. “I can tell you like to stay active. I do, too,” she said, placing a hand on her slim hip, one whose appeal I could see but which held no interest, not after last night.
I said nothing, but Susan was undeterred.
“I don’t intend to intrude, but I have to ask. That first day? Were you and Jordan…?”
The scowl I threw at her practically dared her to proceed, and she did, undaunted.
“I mean, I don’t want to presume because I know that I was mistaken,” she rolled her eyes, “but it looked like you and—”
“I’ll let you know if I need anything else, Susan,” I said.
She recoiled as if I slapped her, and then finally, mercifully, left.
I was annoyed by her intrusion, though, and pissed on Jordan’s behalf. Yet another sign of how I’d let what was supposed to be a simple observation get out of hand. I had no time, and no cause to let whatever petty office drama that was happening at Titan influence me, just like I was crazy for letting things with Jordan get even this far.
But I’d fix it. I just didn’t know quite how yet.

Chapter Twelve
“This is not how I’d imagined spending my evening,” she said, her voice throaty, the sound intensifying when I lightly squeezed her breasts.
“Especially after last night,” she responded, stretching up on her tiptoes to feather a series of light kisses across my collarbone.
I stilled my hands. “What do you mean?”
She licked the spot she’d just kissed and then said, “If I tell you, will you start touching me again?”
In lieu of a response, I cupped her breasts and then skimmed my hands around her back and down to cup the full globes of her ass.
“Yesterday,” she said between kisses, “you kissed me, and then I thought you were going to arrest me, and then well…after. It was confusing. Not something I expected to repeat.”
The rational part of my mind agreed with her, but not being with her again wasn’t an option.
“And does it please you? Repeating this?” I asked, feeling uncertain, something I wasn’t familiar with.
She stopped, lowered herself until her feet rested on the floor, and stared up at me. “What do you think?” she asked, face alight with mischief and desire.
“I haven’t decided. I think you should show me,” I said, the uncertainty of moments ago replaced with a lightness that was equally unfamiliar.
She lifted the corner of her mouth and stepped closer, hand extended in front of her. I hadn’t made it past the entryway when I’d arrived, and now I stood with my back against the door, much as she’d been yesterday. We were close enough that the difference in our heights was apparent, but though I dwarfed her, she looked powerful, and in that moment, I was at her mercy.
Her fingers were curved around the hem of my shirt—my only detour between Titan and Jordan had been a stop to change out of that awful suit—and she lifted, the cool air against my newly exposed skin only underscoring the heat of my desire.
Jordan slid her hand down my stomach and then across the bulge of my erection, the barely there touch, and her teasing eyes telling me that she was enjoying having me under her spell.
    And I was.
