Today is one of the most important days of Derrick’s life and I couldn’t be more proud of him. After the past three years and the sleepless nights he’s finally graduating from Harvard Law. In celebration of this day, I invited my family as well as Rose and Bud over for breakfast. I thought it would be a nice idea to have us all here together in our home before heading over to Cambridge for his commencement.

Since the main color of Harvard is crimson red, I thought it was fitting to purchase a dress that would match for some school spirit. Beside my dress I have set out Derrick’s suit, dress shirt, tie and his graduation gown. As I stare down at our items a tear runs down my cheek.
My heart begins to break as I realize what I have to tell Derrick today. I have wanted to talk to him about this for the past three weeks, but I have a decision to make. I know I should have talked to him about this before today, but it never seemed to be the right time. Now of all days I have to tell him that our lives are about to change. Not only is he graduating from law school, but I too have received an opportunity of a lifetime that I just cannot refuse.
I wipe the tears from my cheeks that are now pouring out of my eyes and head into the bathroom. The bathroom begins to steam up and I enter the shower and hurry to clean myself so that I can get ready before our families come. Today is Derrick’s day and I promise not to ruin it until the very last minute. I may be the worst girlfriend in the world after today, but that is a risk I have to take. Chances like this only come once a lifetime.
The bathroom door opens and I can see Derrick through the glass shower doors. He strips his running gear off and pulls down two towels for us setting them on the hooks next to the shower. He slides open the shower door and moves in behind me.

“Of course I don’t mind, actually I was hoping you would come in to wash my back.”
“Perfect timing then, huh?”
“Yes, you are perfect Derrick.”
