frenzy broke him. He choked her name as he gave a final thrust and shuddered inside her as she shook beneath him, spasming around his length.
For a moment they lay silently twined together, no words necessary as they sank into their post-coital bliss. And then Parker tipped her face to his and brushed his lips across hers. A promise. An oath.
She gazed back at him, overwhelmed by the swirling emotions inside her. There was no doubt now, just as there hadn't been since the first time he touched her, that Parker was her Mate. Her soul's partner, her life's companion, the man she would spend the rest of her life with. And though she could easily have a lifetime of such glorious sex, she wasn't sure she was ready for the rest of it. She wasn't sure she was ready to see such a tender, solemn vow in his eyes before they'd even shared their first meal together.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Parker had the woman of his dreams sweaty and sated in his bed. He didn't think he would ever forget the way she'd felt that first time in the flesh --supple skin against him, her fragrant curtain of dark curls spread out beneath her as he moved in her. The taste of her cunt--and here he felt himself getting hard again, recalling the way she had given herself over to him, to pleasure, enjoying herself with the abandon of a woman with far more experience. It had been the most incredible experience--one that he thought he would only ever have in his dreams. When he'd looked in Charmaine's eyes he'd seen his entire future in front of him, and he couldn't wait to get started.
Three problems.
One, she was young. Twenty years old. Practically a kid. She was his intended Mate and he wasn't letting her go, but there was no way he could marry a kid her age. Never mind that his family had a long history of teenage marriages and his father had been pushing him to find his Mate for years; he felt he was barely old enough to marry at twenty-five. Sure, he'd had a lot of responsibility his entire life. His father had been grooming him for Alpha since he was a young boy, and he'd never taken his eye off that eventual goal. There wasn't even a choice in the matter; it was his destiny, just like Charmaine was his destiny. It was simply a matter of timing.
But the responsibilities of a pack Alpha and the responsibilities of a husband were two very different things. He could lead, of that he was certain. He had it in his bones and he had learned at the feet of his father, who was brilliant despite his stubbornness.
Taking over the pack was one thing. Taking the responsibility to love another human being, to honor and care for her, to think of her best interests as well as his own--that was another story entirely. And that was the second issue.
She shifted in his arms and he couldn't resist kissing her again. Those soft lips, that sweet breath.
Mine .
He could die like this, holding her and knowing he had made her happy. Unlike it had been to take every other woman in his life to his bed, he couldn't get enough of this, of her. She wasn't just a pleasurable romp or someone to spend time with. She was on his brain, under his skin, in every particle of his being.
But she was also his sworn enemy. Problem number three, the most important one of all, was that she was the Vella princess. He'd heard of her, the girl César Vella wanted to keep sheltered from the nasty realities of pack life. He'd heard the old man kept her in a little house on his compound and didn't let her date. Frankly, he was surprised she had come out with him at all. His sources told him she hadn't had a boyfriend since she was a schoolgirl.
She was forbidden fruit. No, she was more than forbidden fruit. And yet they were meant for each other, destined by forces beyond their control, forces stronger than family bonds or treaties.
How do I square that circle?
