shifted her gaze to Greg. “Have you known many vampires?”
    “I’ve met a few, but that’s it.”
Alexi held her glass and leaned against the counter. She lifted one foot, then the other. The pain in her feet eased for mere seconds, but those seconds mattered. She tried to hide what she was doing, but she grimaced when the pressure on her toes returned in full force.
    “Are you okay?” Greg asked.
“My feet are a bit cramped in these shoes.”
“Well, let’s find a place to sit down.” Greg scanned the room quickly. “I see somewhere. Follow me.”
Alexi followed behind Greg with her drink and purse in her hands. With each step, pain shot through her feet and she clenched her teeth. Greg stopped at a round table with vacant chairs. He scooted one out from underneath the table and met her gaze.
    “Please, have a seat.”
She did without hesitation. “Thank you.”
“I take it dancing is out of the question.” Greg sat next to her.
Grinning, she set her purse on the table. “I’m afraid so.”
While she sipped on her wine Greg watch her and drank his beer.
“Three hundred years is a long time to walk the earth,” he said, setting his cup on the table. “I imagine your feet must be really tired.”
“I’ve had a fair amount of shoes over the years.” She set her glass down. “Technically, I’m three hundred and twenty-seven.”
“You don’t look a day over twenty.”
“Yes, and it’s that detail that has always forced me to move. Now that things have changed because of P-Day and there are communities for us, I’m hoping I won’t have to move for a long time.”
“I think you will like it here. Everyone is nice and caring.” He took a sip of his drink.
Alexi crossed her legs. Tired of talking about herself and the community, she changed the subject. “Corey told me you’ve known each other a while.”
“Yes. He’s a great guy. A little rough around the edges, but he has a kind heart.”
“And you’ve lived together for a while, with…”
    “Andy.”
    “Yes, thank you.”
“We work in the same building, well, for the same office, just in different divisions.” He scratched the thin layer of hair covering his cheek. “I believe it was Corey’s idea to share a house. We both knew each other well, so it sounded like a good idea to live together and split the expenses. Andy grew up in the area and was part of the local pack. He introduced us to the others, then with their approval we decided to move into the community.”
“You had to get permission?” She imbibed more wine.
“Yes. Most packs like to keep a list of all the werewolves living in an area. That way, if there is a problem, the pack can work together to resolve it.”
She set her glass back on the table. “Like one big family.”
“Something like that.” He half smiled. “Do you have any family?”
Feeling a bit light-headed, Alexi rubbed her temple. The small amount of alcohol she’d drunk worked fast. “Not really. My best friend lives in Europe.”
“I suppose your mortal family passed a long time ago,” he said, but it was more a question. “That must be difficult to see your love ones die.”
“They were killed the night my maker took me, so I didn’t have to watch them grow old and pass on.”
She reached for her glass, desperate for another sip. The grim memory of the terrible night when her family died was one she wanted to forget. And she certainly didn’t like to talk about it.
“I’m so sorry.” Brows drawn together, he gave her a look of concern.
“So, you and Corey are pretty close?” she asked while returning her glass on the table. She wanted to know more about them. She especially wanted to satisfy her curiosity by asking if they were lovers, but she thought it might be rude to blurt it out.
“Yeah, you could say we’re close.”
She couldn’t stop the smile from spreading on her face. They were lovers. Had to be.
“The full moon is coming. Do you two run
