"Emmy!" Troy said and rushed to hug his daughter. "Honey, I'm so sorry." He said. "Are you okay? I know that's a stupid question but--"
"I'm fine, dad. You shouldn't have come."
"Nonsense." Troy said. "Lena called me for questioning, too. She thinks we lacked security and all that."
"McMahon's crazy." Daniel quipped. "She's into destroying the business but she won't be able to do it, I'm telling you. And Ruby and Grace insisted that there wake must be held here. I told them that they shouldn't but they were very insistent."
"Let them have what they want. Then I'll make sure that they get out of here. I shouldn't have taken this project in the first place. Dad, I'm sorry."
"It's certainly not your fault, sweetheart."
"But I feel like such a failure." Emmy then started to cry. "I feel like I can never do anything right. Everytime that I try, things just end up getting worse. I never wanted this to happen, daddy."
Troy wrapped his arms around her daughter. "None of this is your fault, Emilia. I love you. Don't cry. It's all going to be okay."
"What if it doesn't?"
"It will be." Troy said. "We have to believe that it will."
After Troy left, Emmy and Daniel went to bed but Emmy cannot sleep. She just ended up crying with her back against Daniel.
"Maybe, I never should have returned from Paris. You know, I'm pretty sure all your lives would be better without me here. Maybe, all of the things are happening because of me."
"Emmy, you cannot blame yourself for this. This isn't your fault. No one wanted any of these to happen and blaming yourself won't help."
"That's just do easy for you to say."
"Of course it's not."
"You shouldn't have left Ruby before. Maybe, Edward's life could've been spared and we'll all be at peace instead of having to deal with all of this."
"Stop." He said. "You are just tired."
"You're right." She said. "I am tired. I'm very tired." She was crying once more. She didn't bother wiping her tears away; she's just wanted all the pain to be gone. She's just wanted to start over and move on but right now, it seems to be impossible.
"I am, too." He said. "But I'll never be tired for you. I'll always be here for you. No matter what." His voice was clotted with tears, too.
He held her and she let him do so. They didn't speak afterwards; they both had no idea what to say.
CHAPTER 16
I WANT OUT
Edward's wake was held at this resort. As hard as it was for Emmy, she handled the task of standing the White roses used and she was also there to talk to the visitors. Somehow, she felt like it was her responsibility although she knew that she wasn't at fault.
She also tried very hard not to snap whenever she heard people asking Ruby what happened. Ruby didn't even have the decency to say that it was an accident; she just let people assume whatever they thought was right.
Emmy felt that whatever she says won't be taken seriously anyway so she just chosee to keep quiet. She didn't want to be part of another debacle and she just wanted to take a rest and forget about everything. She did not really want to deal with all of these anymore.
Edward was buried at a cemetery not too far away from the Sky Valley Resort. "I don't want you to forget him." Ruby told her while Edward's casket was being lowered down the ground.
"I'm sure you shouldn't forget forget him, too. I know you won't." Emmy said.
Ruby stared at her for a long time. She was quivering and she didn't really know how to react to what Emmy said.
"I liked Edward, Ruby." Emmy said. "I think he was a good man and you know what? I really don't think he deserved you. Doesn't that make you sad? He's being lowered to the ground now. He won't ever come back." Emmy went on. "Oh and took know what else? I know Daniel doesn't deserve you, too. He and I may not be seeing eye to eye right now but let me just tell you that he is way out of your league. And I hope he doesn't fall back to the trap of being with you again because he deserves
