hand
slid along her denim-covered hip, up under the flowing peasant blouse to the
contour of her stomach.
Lacey shivered at the touch and a small sigh escaped her.
She told herself she ought to take the situation in hand, if she still could,
but the gentle rocking of the boat seemed to be adding a hypnotic effect to the
captivating sensations of his lips and hands. Instead of trying again to pull
away, she lifted her fingertips to the thickness of his hair, reveling in it
    "Oh,
Holt. . ."
Her words seemed to release yet another bond in both of
them. The warm, strong hand on her stomach flattened possessively against her
skin and began gliding upward toward her unconfined breasts.
Too late Lacey realized his intention. What was the matter
with her? She barely knew this man and wasn't even sure she liked the part she
did know! What was she doing allowing him to hold her and kiss her like this?
    With an
extraordinary effort of will she twisted in his grasp, intending to slide off
his lap. But the arm cradling her to his chest suddenly became a band of steel
clamping her in place while his fingers moved to shape the small, high breasts.
"Lacey, don't fight me. I only want to sample some of
your sweetness. You feel so good. I wanted to kiss you the moment I saw you
yesterday. . . . Hell, I wanted to do a lot more than that! I took one look at
the excitement and anticipation in those lovely blue eyes and I wanted you to
be feeling those emotions for me!"
"Holt, please! This has gone far enough. . . . I
hardly know you and . . ."
"No," he denied deeply, his tongue circling the
delicate area of her ear. "You don't have to worry about how far you go
with a stranger as long as the feelings are right. You told me so
yourself!"
    "I
meant. . ."
Her protest died beneath the sharply indrawn breath which
she found herself gulping as his thumb grated lightly, excitingly across one
nipple, enticing it to urgent firmness.
"The feelings are right, aren't they, Lacey?" he
challenged softly as he felt her shiver again in his arms. His fingers shifted,
circling the other nipple and bringing it to a thrusting peak.
Lacey moaned into his shoulder, felt the damp film on his
hot skin and inhaled the intoxicating scent of him. Without conscious thought
she sank her small, white teeth into his shoulder. He growled a fierce response
and the hand on her breast moved with an exciting tension.
Her nails dug into his back as he lifted the blouse upward
and lowered his head to find the tip of one breast.
    "Oh!"
    The
small cry was torn from her as her senses spun. Never had her body reacted so
positively, so immediately to a man's touch! She knew intuitively that this
fire that raced along her nerves and brought one tremor after another must be
the element of passion she had told herself existed but which she had never
really known, not even during the year and a half of her marriage.
"Lacey, Lacey," he rasped, his tongue flicking
narrowing circles around the dark pink which crowned her breast, closing in on
the nipple with tantalizing, teasing slowness until she thrust her fingers
heavily into his hair and forced his mouth more rightly against her.
With a groan of male satisfaction and rising need, he
obliged, kissing her until she was a tightly coiled human spring searching for
the ultimate release.
With a powerful surge he was suddenly on his feet, lifting
her high against his chest and carrying her toward the small cabin. She shut
her eyes against the brightness of the sun and the full impact of what she knew
was happening. A moment later she was lowered gently to the cushion of a
narrow bed and when her lashes fluttered open he was coming down on top of her.
His solid, lean weight pinned her to the bunk.
Gripping her tightly, his lower body pressing deliberately,
intimately against her, Holt rained kisses along her throat, down her breasts,
and across the softness of her stomach. The blouse was off completely now. He'd
pulled it swiftly,
