eyes, Bobby knew he wasnât kidding, after all. âI wasnât following you,â he stammered, barely able to get the words out. He hoped Roland and Stonewall had figured out what was going on. At twenty-four, he was too young to die, and from the look in Grangerâs eyes, he was as good as dead.
âI told you to let me handle this, Dalton,â the woman snapped.
Not taking his eyes off Bobby, Granger snapped back, âI can take care of my own business.â
âHa!â The woman gave a snorted laugh. âYou didnât even know youâd been followed until I told you.â
Bobby watched Grangerâs jaw tighten. Evidently, he hadnât liked being reminded of that. âWhatever.â Daltonâs features hardened even more at Bobby. âAre you going to answer my question? Why were you following me?â
Bobby knew he had to think fast. âI wasnât following you. My name is Bobby, and I have a girlfriend who lives in one of these condos. I was just sitting here keeping a watch out for her.â Heâd given his real first name just in case they asked to see his driverâs license.
âThen youâre a stalker,â the woman accused, inching her gun closer to his forehead.
âNo, Iâm not a stalker. Just a concerned boyfriend.â He knew his story sounded as unbelievable as shit, but for the time being, he was sticking to it.
âWhatâs her name?â Dalton threw the question out at him.
Bobby frowned. âWhose name?â
âYour girlfriend. I want to validate your story.â
Bobby rolled his eyes as best he could with two Glocks pointed at him. âCome on, man. You think you know every person who lives around here?â
The woman snorted. âIf sheâs a female, he probably knows her.â
Bobby watched Dalton switch his gaze to glare over at the woman. âI told you I had this, Jules, so go home.â
âLike hell I will.â
Bobby drew in a deep breath. Were these the same two heâd seen kissing earlier? Evidently, theyâd never made it to the bedroom.
âI can put you in your car, you know,â Dalton snarled over at the woman heâd called Jules.
She lifted her chin. âIâd like to see you try.â
Bobbyâs heart missed a beat. Were they actually standing here having a heated argument while holding guns on him? What if one of their fingers slipped and the gun accidentally fired? Shit. People would be reading about his dead ass in the papers tomorrow morning.
âExcuse me.â
Both Dalton and Jules stopped glaring at each other long enough to turn their attention back to him, snapping simultaneously, âWhat?â
âIf you donât believe me, then I suggest you call the police,â Bobby said, hoping they wouldnât take his suggestion. âAt the moment, Iâd feel safer in their hands than yours.â
âWe couldnât care less how you feel,â Dalton snapped angrily. âIf you have a girlfriend who lives around here, then give me a name or tell me why you were following me.â
âI can answer that for you, Mr. Granger.â
Dalton jerked around at the sound of the feminine voice to find a woman standing within ten feet of them with two big guys by her side. Where the hell had they come from? He quickly switched his aim from the man whoâd claimed his name was Bobby to the trio, grateful Jules had taken stock of the situation, as well, and, like him, wasnât taking any chances. She kept her gun aimed directly on Bobby while he kept his leveled on the three.
âAnd just what can you tell me, Ms....?â
âBoyett,â she said easily. âCarson Boyett.â
Dalton frowned. Where had he heard that name before? He tossed the question around in his mind a few times, and then he remembered. It had come up during a conversation heâd had earlier that day with Jace and Caden. They had
