approaches with a tray of
champagne welcoming us and for a moment Bella is distracted, ‘oh thank you’ she
takes two glasses handing me one.
‘It is pretty stunning’ I note ‘tasteful’
‘Exactly!’ she hands her glass to me and
pulls out a tiny notepad from her clutch scribbling some notes before returning
it to her bag.  We enter the main area which is just as striking and already
buzzing with people, it is a private function being the opening event so the
occupants are mainly potential clients or individuals who were involved in the
development.  There are men in their plenty mostly in suits that radiate wealth
and power, we strut to the bar area and place our glasses on the ledge before
turning to peruse the clientele.
‘So what do you think?’ I test.
‘I like it very much’ Bella’s eyes are
sparkling with something I recognize as ambition, I can almost hear the cogs of
her brain turning ‘just the place for birthday bashes’ she voices.
‘Yes, I can totally agree I would be
extremely appreciative of a birthday party here’ I tease.
‘Let’s mingle’ she whispers.  We wander
around the room as Bella checks out the facilities smiling and greeting people
she is familiar with.
‘Ok I am bored surveying the building now
Bella, let’s get a drink’ I move across the dance area of the club until I
reach the bar, ‘two passion fruit mojitos please’ I smile at the bartender and
reach in my purse for money.
‘Hi Abi!’ Mike calls from beside me ‘is
Bella with you?’
‘Hi Mike, yes she should be behind me’ I
turn to locate Bella without success, ‘she is somewhere nearby, can I get you a
drink Mike?’
‘Sure! JD and coke please Abi’ he sits at a
bar stall, ‘so what do you think of the place?’
‘Stunning Mike, Bella informs me that you
were involved in the renovating, cheers’ I tip my glass to Mike.
‘Cheers, yes I was part of the team’ he
nods and is distracted momentarily by who I presume is Bella behind me by his
grin, ‘well hi Bella’ he stands leaning down to kiss Bella’s cheek and I roll
my eyes.
‘Mike’ she returns the kiss her eyes
sparkling towards his, I hand her the cocktail grinning something tells me I am
going to be a spare part this evening.  They make a handsome couple both with
their blonde hair and blue eyes, Mike is tall at around six foot Bella being a
foot smaller with her four inch heels.
‘You look sensational’ he murmurs down to
her his eyes focusing on hers alone.
‘Why thank you Mike’ she smiles up at him.
‘Excuse me’ I decide that I cannot stand by
and watch such an intimate moment and collect my drink from the bar and move
around the room.  The background music that was has since been vamped up and a
few intoxicated woman are now on the dance floor moving to the rhythm.  I am
smiling as I turn and bump into someone almost spilling my drink, ‘oh I am
sorry’ I utter apologetically.
‘That’s….’ my eyes move up to a pair of extremely
green eyes, ‘Abi!’ Grant breathes.
‘Hi’ I flush, what the hell is Grant doing
here? My heart is hammering through my chest.
‘Hi!’ his eyebrows raise to the ceiling in
surprise ‘what are you doing here?’
‘I am here with Bella’ I murmur as my
insides remember the impact this man has on me and begins its awakening.
‘It’s good to see you’ he murmurs quietly
his eyes warming as he takes in my appearance, ‘you look good Abi, gorgeous in
fact’
‘You too’ I flush as I recall images of my
hands in his hair as he bites my nipples, I take a deep breath and put a hand
to my chest to steady my nerves.  A woman appears at Grant’s arm and links her
arm in his, ‘shall we get a drink darling?’ she murmurs seductively against his
shoulder ignoring me completely.
‘Good to see you Grant’ I wave as I turn
and walk back towards Bella my heart jumping out of my chest.  I feel pain
surge through my chest at the picture of Grant with another woman,
