said carefully. ‘But we do have other problems to deal with. I’ll explain and you can decide what suits you best.’
Emily studied the woman warily.
‘We’re sailing down to Havalaña,’ Laura explained carefully. ‘It will take us another week if we continue at our current rate, and when we arrive we have a business meeting planned. On the way there, we will be stopping at two ports for the odd supplies we might require.’
Emily nodded patiently.
‘Our feelings were: we could either drop you at the next port, or take you with us down to Havalaña.’
‘That’s a fairly major port, isn’t it?’ Emily asked. She recalled seeing the name in one of the holiday brochures she had studied.
Laura nodded. ‘They have a couple of hotels and a small airport. It’s still a pissant little hole, but it’s as close to civilisation as we’re likely to get in this part of the world. Most importantly from your point of view, they have a British Consul.’
The words conjured up so many welcome images that Emily could not stop herself from grinning. A British Consul would be the answer to all of her problems. Her lost passport would be dealt with, she could organise plane tickets and sort out travel arrangements to go back home. ‘They really have a British Consul?’ she asked. ‘I didn’t realise. I mean –’
‘Slow down,’ Captain Wilde’s words broke into the conversation softly.
Emily stared at him, puzzled. She felt his dark words colour the rosy hue of the image Laura had built up.
‘This business meeting is fairly important to Laura and me,’ he explained. ‘The whole point of our journey there by boat is to prepare for it.’
Emily shrugged, unable to see what he was driving at. ‘I can help if you like,’ she said quickly. ‘I have my own business back in England; I’d be happy to help sort out a presentation or run through any proposals you may have.’
The captain and his wife smiled indulgently. ‘I don’t think you understand,’ Laura said patiently. ‘When we have this meeting, we won’t be discussing business.’
Emily frowned, wondering if she had missed something. ‘If you’re not discussing business, and you need to prepare before the meeting, then what will you be doing, and how do I fit in?’
Captain Wilde grinned broadly. ‘Remember what you saw in the pilothouse earlier,’ he said quietly. He leant across the table and stroked his hand against her cheek. It was a gesture that was far more intimate than Emily felt comfortable with. After being tied to the mast and manhandled by the man to the point of orgasm, she felt a bitter loathing for Captain Wilde. She flinched away from his touch before she could stop herself.
The captain glared at her, his smile replaced by a look of the darkest fury. ‘What we shall be doing,’ he said tersely, ‘is preparing Vincent and Dawn for the meeting. We know from previous experience that our clients like to play corporal punishment games. As a sweetener for this deal, Laura and I have decided to entertain these two men by letting them use our slaves.’
Emily’s eyes opened wide.
She stared at Captain Wilde, her features strained with disbelief. ‘Slaves!’ she repeated. ‘Is this some sort of joke? Slaves? Corporal punishment games? You can’t be serious?’ She turned helplessly to face Laura. ‘Is he kidding me?’ she asked.
It was obvious from Laura’s face that the captain’s words had been said in earnest. ‘He’s not kidding,’ Laura said quietly. ‘We thought you’d be a little shocked by the situation, which is why we’re prepared to give you a choice.’
‘That’s right,’ Captain Wilde said quickly. ‘If you don’t want to stay on board until we reach Havalaña then we can drop you off at Port Maga in two days time. There’s no British Consul there but I’m fairly sure they do have a telephone exchange. With a bit of luck you should be able to phone someone and organise your own
